Can you post the exact error message? Which version of Maemo do you have installed (somewhere under settings, My Phone perhaps?)

Detailed message is: "Unable to install 'mbarcode' Application packages missing: libdmtx0a libzbar0 mbarcode-plugins-all () | mbarcode-plugin"

version I am trying to install is 1.0.0-2, and I am using mbarcode_1.0.0-2_armel.deb.

I am using "Maemo 5" (as displayed by "About Product" in config.

I assume I can force dpkg to ignore the compatibility problem, but I don't think it is correct way of installing it and it may not work as expected. Compatibility checks made for reason.

Either reinstalling or clearing .config/mbarcode fixed it. Thanks!

If you use dpkg from the command line to install a local file you have to ensure that all the deps are met yourself. Far easier to use apt-get which will automatically handle downloading and installing the deps for you.

Glad you've got it working anyway.

No, I still cannot get through how to install it on my n900, problem is that in application manager I have "maemo.org" catalogue that points to "http:://repository.maemo.org/extras/", Distribution is set to "fremantle-1.3" and Components to free non-free. And MBarcode is NOT IN A LIST of applications that can be installed. There are many apps available, but MBarcode is not one of them.

It's not in the "maemo.org" (extras) repository yet, only in extras-devel (please note the warnings before enabling this repository). The changelog & version number would suggest that it'll be pushed (via extras-testing) to the main repository before too much longer though.

Actaully "apt-get install mbarcode" executed on n900 in command line gives exactly same result "E: Couldn't find package mbarcode"

Is there some way to hook up mbarcode with a Windows PC so that the numerical code could be easily transferred to the clipboard in Windows?

I have tried to find a mention of this topic in the past but never found any, but I'm sure this would not be a very rare usecase for mbarcode.
