The update cycle for apple devices seems to be around 2 years before the device becomes more or less obsolete (I could be wrong about this). It's not that you can't use the device, but it becomes too old to receive OS updates, and thus becomes less supported by newer apps (I've experienced this with my touch, though I'm not sure to what extent this is true).
This is the only reason why the update cycle for iOS devices is somewhat a turn off -- for me anyhow. Though they release new devices yearly, which is nice for new buyers.
Even the *oldest* android phone, the G1, has had the benefit of having Froyo installed on it via cyanogen, and it's likely to get Gingerbread as well.

True. Maybe the more I think of it maybe Android on a Tablet is for me rather than IOS.

I would recommend that you carefully consider your options and physically try each device if possible. I'm partial to Android, but my needs are unique, and I'd hate to influencing you into making a sub-optimal choice.
Just curious, what made you potentially rethink getting an Android tablet?

I was talking to a cousin today and she was blown away by the fact that you could do voice dictation with Android. I was talking to her about the upcoming translation feature, or dictating an email, or a voice search, and she was floored by the capability.
I told her, that for a casual user, an iPad or Tab would be a lovely device -- you can't go wrong with either. But when talking to her about some of the out-of-the-box capabilities of the Tab, she was *very* impressed, and started talking to me of the usage possibilities .
It's worth noting that she is *not* a gadget person in the slightest, and somewhat refuses to accept smartphones, but was very interested in the Tab as a companion device. Go figure.
If this is a sign, the Samsung may have a real winner on their hands.
Mainly that with both IOS and Android I would have to jailbreak/root them to get what I want. And Apple seems more determined to stop jailbreaking versus Android hardware companies who don't actively try (from what I've followed).
Also Google tends to release their cool new stuff on Android and iPhone and iPad might get it later (like Google Goggles).

Ironically, my mom (who HATES computers) wants my Droid after seeing all the crap it does for me on a daily basis as if it was just casual common sense (i.e. Google Maps, Heat Rate Monitor, voice recognition, podcasts, etc.).
