He ain't a noob - he's been here before under the name "yasirrfc". I doubt he even realises his ban has expired on that account...

Just a thought...would it be possible to get backup menu to only fire up when a certain key is held down? Like perhaps, 'b'?
I tend to leave my phone with the keyboard out and if it reboots, it's more likely I'll want the desktop than backupmenu.

BM does an image for root (system) and one for opt (settings and data). However, like the programs says, it is a bad idea to restore them separately. Packages install on both and restoring one without the other is a bad idea, you'd be restoring stuff partly.
If you give him your root image, he gets your list of installed apps and part of the installed apps, but not their config files and not some of their needed parts, so they'd crash, be stuck in the menu but can't be launched, etc.
If you want, have him back up contacts, give him both files, then have him restore his contacts. Though why he doesn't just apt-get kernel-power I can't fathom.
Since you skipped hawaii's post, I'll make this more visible:
This is a bad idea.
N900 dead and Nokia no longer replaces them. Thanks for all the fish.
