hello, I was wondering, would it be possible to move the postinst script to a "run first" script instead. I don't think postinst is a good place for large operations like the data extraction. Also, I would like to do the exctraction on my pc instead and copy the extracted files (did that on previous versions).

extraction on PC may works as previous. Extracted data need to be copied in /home/user/MyDocs/stratagus/wargus

A lot of users had problem with extracting data on PC and phone transfer (ssh server, ssh windows client, ...), so I decided to not support this method. Device extracting data is better solution for non linux users.

I agree that extracting on device is a better idea, but I still maintain that doing the extraction in postinst is not the way to go. It should be done at first run. Installing wargus without the data files in the correct place leaves the package unconfigured which causes a whole lot of problems.

Stratagus and Wargus are mulltiplatform and there are small platform defined code. Common code is for Debian and Maemo too.

I have this idea:
* in postinst will be user asked if he want to extract data
* When Wargus will be started and data will not found, start postinst script (ask for extracting and extract)

It is OK? Adding extract code to Stratagus/Wargus launcher only for Maemo is not good for multiplatform code. This my idea is common for all Debian system.

Yep, that would be perfect

I still can't get the original audio CD work. All I hear is the high-pitched MIDI music. I changed the filenames as instructed, all encoded to .OGG but no luck.

Use desktop version of Wargus to extract data (it rip music too) and copy ogg/vorbis files to phone.

Game installs but it won't rip audio tracks [says ripping Warcraft 2 audio tracks failed]. The CD is mounted from an .NRG image.

Yes, you cannot rip audio cd from mounted image. For ripping audio cd tracks: You need original Warcraft II DOS CD.
