Glad to hear that. So what do you think my 2005 stamp might stand for, in a device that was built in 2007?

I was editing/adding more explanation to my post as you were posting... so just look back. (I have a bad habit of posting, then reading what I posted and revising it.)

My 2005 stamp isn't on a chip, it is on the back side of the actual circuit board in the area right under the battery. When you remove the battery it is on the right side, and is stamped vertically (rotated 90deg counterclockwise from normal).

I have a feeling I should be sending my unit in for warranty repair or replacement. I'd love to keep it and wait for a permanent soft fix for this problem, but if one never surfaces from Nokia or elsewhere I will be dealing with this until the 820 comes out in 2009.

OK, I'm still playing with this thing before I RMA it. Right now the device still won't power-on on it's own. However, if I plug it in it is now consistently going into Battery Recharge mode (after sitting plugged in for 30 or so sec), and can then be powered on from there.

I have a question: Has anybody who is experiencing these power-on problems tried replacing the battery, either with an official Nokia one or a Hong Kong knock-off? I'm kind of wondering if the problem with the battery itself, and that the battery isn't correctly registering with the device sometimes, causing it to think the battery is dead or something...

I have not tried another battery, I am only using the one that came in the box. Hologram sticker and everything, assume it is authentic. I will try buying another battery before sending the unit in for repair if anyone else has had success...

If I was you, I would send the unit for repair/replace. IMO is unacceptable to be dealing with batteries, etc. You bought a brand new unit. I understand it's a pain in the *** but you deserve a working unit. I am unable to proceed that way because if I send my def unit the shipping charge is almost the cost of a new one . Show Nokia the way they should work.

My new N810 has "2007 94" stamped under the battery. I do not know what the defective unit had stamped there.
IMO This is the way to "solve" the problem (while you can)

Agreed. I will wait another month or so though, because I need to have this baby with me to show off at Christmas & New Year's Eve festivities.

The future is here today, but it already needs to be replaced with a newer rev.
