You can do both ooo and KDE. In fact, KDE would probably be better for OOO than maemo. A three GB partition would allow KDE to have its files and leave you with a little working room. Of course, there is no "best" answer; it's up to you.

I don't recommend using maemo for OOo because there are some dialog boxes that don't fit on the maemo screen, and you can't hit the "OK" button.
