I've been using the GC dialer a bit since it was released. I love the idea and have no complaints about the bare-bones implementation, but have noticed a problem that hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread, so I'm curious to see if others are experiencing the same issue.

The problem is an echo. The few people I've called so far report that they can hear an annoying echo that makes it difficult for them to follow the conversation. Now, I can't hear it on the IT, but they certainly do on the other end. Has anyone else encountered this situation?

Oh yes I got that in some of my calls, but definitely not all.

would love to see this be able to interface with gpe contacts... just tap a number and it would dial it.....or even better a whole new contacts program built around the dialer

GPE contacts, if designed properly, should open the URI for the number which can then be mapped to the correct application my maemo mime typing. For instance I had tel: mapped to my call application so that tapping on a phone number in my browser invoked a gc callback. I could have done the same with voip: URI and been able to intercept address book calls as well.

Since the GC dialer just initiates the call then I would doubt it has anything to do with the echo. Echo is usually from latency that is too high for some of the phone switches to deal with.

GC Dialer could use ContactInfos DBus Service to get number from GPE or Built-in Contact.
There is an implementation of this call in phonelink already ...

I've made some changes to the GUI (minor at this point), and I'm working on implementing a list of most-recently-dialed-numbers as a drop-down menu. This isn't ready to release yet...but it will be available from the Maemo garage site for Grandcentral Dialer when it's ready.

The source code and installer package for the current version are there now. As always, contributions from other developers are welcome.

I'll try and connect it with ContactInfos ... But I have to find DBus Call and Signal handling examples in Python first
