Heheheh, I think they thought 3000 would be a generous number.
This is totally going against my "wait until the early adopters have drawn some blood" philosophy, but I'm seriously thinking of asking the wife if I can buy my Christmas present a little early. Sounds like I might be too late, though.

from openpandora.org frontpage
We sold 2000 Pandoras in 6 hours even with the server totally besieged.
...
We are quickly looking in to if it is possible to increase our planned first batch to 4000 units.

Still, I keep wondering if this will not one day be seen as the starting point of a totally new way of manufacture and distribution: "Three guys in a garage" design, troubleshoot, produce and distribute a totally new computer with -- relatively -- no money behind them, but rather the active support and contribution of a community of enthousiasts.

Even if I wanted to buy one, they apparently don't consider Bulgaria as "Rest of Europe"...

I saw it too. This is a lot better than even my wildest expectations. The forums are still completely down BTW.
Now before we get over ourselves, compared to DS sales or the iPhone (<spit!>) hype, the numbers are rather low. Could this be the start of OSM (Open Source Manufacturing)?

EDIT: There were three guys there, too. So it isn't new at all. Shrug.

I thought the 3000 initial run had more to do with manufacturing capability than demand.
I was pretty sure they'd sell out 3000 easily. I'd push it to 5000 if they can.
