Seriously...go watch the video. You'll thank yourself later.

Actually the more I think about it the $50 offer for you N800 sounds very reasonable, since whoever would purchase it for that much could in fact, from what you describe, be getting a malfunctioning unit.

If you don't care about the fan club, then why be antagonistic with them on their own forum. Re-read your post and don't tell me there wasn't a nicer way of asking if there's any way to get more performance out of the device.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with a lot of your frustration, being an N800 owner -> N800 seller -> N810 used buyer -> N810 seller (as of today). It's a great toy, and it's fantastic in a pinch when a full computer isn't on hand, but it's very easy to be disappointed with it. (Modest, anyone?)

The problem is most of us here know the history of the tablets and the timing behind them. So while the advertising of the tablet today comes off very MID-like, the guts of the N810 are the same as the N800 when it was released in January 2007? Which means it's chock full of 2006 tech at the touchscreen PDA side of the scale, and not at the Atom netbook side.

A *lot* has changed since then, but Nokia hasn't adapted how the tablet is marketed, so it would be very easy to have higher expectations for the device than it can deliver.

Also, it has always been designed as a general computing device, which means "jack of all trades, master of none." All things are possible, but none are truly optimized. I never agreed with this aspect of the tablet, because it meant it never truly excelled at any particular task.

Sure, you can use GPS, but it's not a very good GPS. But it's there in a pinch, if you happen to be lost and carrying it, and you can build on it -- that's Nokia's pitch. But it sucks if someone bought it for you as a primary GPS unit.

The main problem is Nokia has always said this is not a mass-market device but that's not how it reads on the box. I've made this argument several times regarding video chat limitations and a few other things when comparing what Nokia tablet staffers say, and what was marketed on nseries.com with about as much success as you have had here. The point is, that's what PC Mag reviews are for, and like you I should have listened to them better. But I got over that disappointment once the *general utility* of the device became clear, especially when flying on vacation.

However, I've never used the GPS, video chat, handwriting recognition, or any of these "advanced features." They are absolutely disappointing. Browser with Flash, and RSS were my staple features.

The hard truth is the tablet is no longer novel, not with netbooks around today. Hell, not even with 800x480 keyboard-sliding smartphones here, either. So until Fremantle and the new we're-gonna-blow-you-away tablet emerges, the niche for this device considering its hardware constraints is getting smaller and smaller. Linux enthusiast? Dumbphone extension via BT? Form-factor purist? None of these? Then sell it, you'll only make yourself more miserable.

I know it sucks, but that's why it's called buyer's remorse.

You guys are all so way off the mark. On everything.

The device isn't faulty, it's defective by design.

Omega, you're amazing. After all your posts, people for some reason are still willing to attempt to help you, or share your pain in regards to your issues, and you just take a fresh dump on their faces.

Way to go...

I'm glad I don't have the same viewpoint as you. Or every piece of technology out there would be defective by design.

Edit: Actually I agree, every product out there is defective by design since it can always be improved in some way or form. Either in usability or ergonomically. Therefore companies should hire more Human Factor Psychologists.

what do you want people to say? You're right?

problem is that you're not.

Simple fact of the matter is you're listing problems and then refusing to apply simple solutions for them or even answer when someone tries to help and requests more detail.

Just sell the thing and go away.

boy i'm glad i ordered mine for only $210 (with a coupon code) on buy.com.

i won't feel so bad when it sucks like omega says

then again, i could simply return it, like any person with common sense would... either that, or wait a year and b**** (complain :~/). my options are wide open at this point.

still waiting for my 810...

I applaud all of you that took the undeserved high road, but this wasn't a cry for help. It was "plane" and simple hysteria. Again, the post history tells the story. But so as to not waste too much more of your time than I already have, I'll summarize the posts for you with yet another set of bullet points:
  • Almost-new-owner unwittingly purchases high-end device
  • Almost-new-owner/Almost-new-user excitedly waits for the sound of truck brakes and sliding doors
  • Slowly, but surely with malice, reality sneaks in and wacks User from behind
  • No-longer-user shakingly put's high-end device far back in the closet where high-end device can no longer scratch and gnaw at No-longer-user's mind
  • For nearly 7 months, no-longer-user silently smoulders in hydrochloric hatred
  • No longer able to stand it (It's Spring for God's sake), No-longer-user decides to peddle the seemingly worthless device on some unsuspecting big iTT d*ck
  • No-longer-user thinks, "Finally. I shall be rid of you. Be gone!"
  • But the next day
  • The very, next day
  • While receiving a very strong, warped sense of sellers remorse, No-longer-user suddenly erupts with months worth of bile and vitriol from depths No-longer-with-us even knew existed
  • and you know the rest
