After all updates I found out that the keyboad annoyingly pops up any moment the stylus or finger touches the screen. The only safe zone is dlimited by the blue angle in the bottom right-hand corner. Maybe there is a reason to limit the keyboard activation only when you tap on the input windows and bars?

I have no trouble loading the ITT front page; it does take a while, though. I only have problems on pages like: zerodaydeals.com (which works fine on microB) and uh.edu/webct (which also works fine on microB, but it isn't "testable" since you need login details). I love the browser, though (and the speed of the updates). It's the first truly "mobile" browser I have found for the n810. The rest of the browsers have too small fonts and the zoom is (for me) rather non-intuitive. The "flipping" orientation feature is also quite useful. It's too bad it's closed-source, though. I'd love to be able to change the useragent string and spoof the iPhone/iPod touch so I could use the gmail site built for them.

Biggest Problems/Annoyances:
- The browser seems slow (Pages only seem to appear when they are fully loaded, and that can take a while for big pages). Maybe a progress bar would be helpful? Also, sites like gmail are genuinely slower than on microB or any other browser.
- The browser (after installing the newest update) crashes every once in a while (maybe I'm overtaxing it??? I do have my swap file turned on with the maximum amount of memory available and the only other things I run at the same time are the home applets -- currently the RSS reader, Forcea Weather, HomeDiskFree, Personal Launcher, and mgCal).

Note that I stripped down my system to install Qt 4.5 and Digia @web, so I do not have any other browsers installed (such as tear, midori, etc.), so perhaps that is why it performs (decently) well for me?

I'm just anxiously waiting for Qt and this to get better!!!

Completely random note for the developers: In reference to the @scene youtube browser -- it is an amazing experience for the tablets. Would it be possible to create a Hulu version? That would be amazing!

Hi all,

When the latest Qt 4.5 libraries are in place we do not see the VKB problem. If you have already installed some @Web version update to 2.0.2 does not force Qt library update.

Here is instructions howto upgrade Qt libraries:

1. Make sure you have extras catalogue enabled
2. Install rootsh
3. Open xterm
4. Give following commands at xterm:
- sudo gainroot
- apt-get update
- apt-get upgrade
- agree to both of the following request (Y)

Now all Qt libraries have been upgraded to the newest one.

When we make next release we will make also force to update the stabile Qt libraries. Now also in extras.

Biggest reasons for Qt WebKit performance are memory and lack of some mobile optimizations. One thing you can do that helps is to enable virtual memory. Then some libraries that are not used when surfing can be swapped there and free some RAM for WebKit use.

Why is it dangerous? well many people have suggested this way of updating files missing and since it is not easy to find documentation of the use of the commande line new users will have difficulty knowing what is safe and what is dangerous,
can you give a little explanation to why it is dangerous and thanks for the recommendation to use a safer way.

apt-get upgrade upgrades everything, not only the user-visible packages. It may not be a big problem when only maemo-extras is activated, but if you use more repositories, you might get e.g. library version conflicts easily. YMMV

Hi there,

I just uploaded new vesion (2.0.3) of Digia @Web to extras-devel. It should be visible shortly.

We have added some functionality:

- Support for multiple windows
- Kinetic scrolling in Bookmarks
- Minor icon and dialog changes
- Minor other fixes

We would like to hear your thoughts about the multiple windows functionality. We know that it is a bit slow now when many pages are open in different windows. There are some memory optimizations in Qt that come hopefully in the next release. And we also will work to optimize a bit on the performance.

I like it! If only the tablets had enough memory to keep the pages open, though...
I'm typically running:
Desktop Widgets:
- Personal Launcher
- mgCal
- HomeDisk Free
Applets in the status bar:
- Large Statusbar Clock
- Advanced Backlight Control
- Advanced Power
- "Graph Plugin" (forgot the name)
- Webmail Notifier

If I open even 2 pages in digia@web, my tablet starts to act wierdly (as described below):

Whenever a program consumes too much memory (I'm assuming this--I only see this behavior when I open mutilple instances of microB or mutiple pages in digia@web), everything on the desktop disappears and the applets (advanced power, etc.) disappear & revert to the original applets.

As can be imagined, this is pretty annoying. I don't know if there is any other way to fix it, but I just end up rebooting my tablet every time it happens. Hopefully the new version of Qt will fix the memory consumption.

(back to digia@web):
All in all, though the browser scrolling seems a little snappier (maybe it's my imagination?).

Feature Requests:
- When I click the "mutiple pages" button next to the address bar, I would only like to see all the pages I have open -- not automatically create a new page and switch me to it. Maybe a + (plus) sign can be added at the end of the "switching" panel, so I can just click that if I want a new page?
- Faster opening of the browser (if possible -- or at least a simulation that it is opening faster -- maybe some trick like the iPhone/new version of Safari, where it opens up a screenshot while the actual application loads in the background).
- Option to have the removal of the "zoom-in" effect of the icons. (I like it, but it seems kind of jerky on my n810). I believe it would look nicer if the icons just appeared/disappeared instantly.
- Perhaps the inclusion of dedicated arrows in the bottom right/left (could be changed through preferences) corner that allow me to slowly scroll a web page. (sometimes while reading an article or something online, dragging the page can be a little distracting).
- Removal of the "capital-first-letter" feature. [The browser address bar seems to capitalize the first letter I put into it (only half of the time, though???). I find this kind of annoying since I typically input webpages in all lowercase. Even though (I'm assuming) it shouldn't really matter, I find myself erasing what I've typed so I can fix the first letter and make it lowercase].

Even if these features can't be implemented, digia@web is still pretty cool!

This happens when hildon-desktop crashes, and it's an indication that one of your home or status applets has misbehaved.

An application, even a large one, shouldn't ever cause hildon-desktop to crash, so far as I know. However, if you are running an applet with a memory leak, and it is prevented from gobbling up more RAM by a large application that's actually using memory, then a crash may occur.

Greetings Tuukka,

Are there plans to add CSS support?
This app is done very well. I hope to see it running on the next Maemo release.
