Taken from my desktop and slightly adapted. I had to zip it to comply with the attachment rules of the forum, so you have to unzip it of course. You have gain root access and copy this file to /usr/share/applications/hildon/

Wait 5 seconds (the time the menu adjusts to the new item) and go find it in the "more..." screen.

EDIT: it's the writer shortcut, btw, not the one for soffice (startup screen where you can select the office application you need). I guess that to get soffice it's enough to change 'ooffice -writer' in 'ooffice', and also the icon name accordingly.
Attached Files
File Type: zip openoffice.org-writer.desktop.zip (4.3 KB, 174 views)

Or, I didn't find an obvious way. Someone wants to try and find how? Thank
I can't bring up the font color chooser. The Font Color button on the toolbar is outside the screen. So I have to click on the button at the very end of the toolbar to get to it. However, when I do get it I can only apply the color. I see no way to bring up the color chooser. So, to change font color I have to go to Format > Character > Font Effects > Font color. That gives me a drop down where I can change the color with no problems. Now, getting out of that dialog box is tricky because the OK, Cancel buttons are right next to the edge at the very bottom of the screen, but it can be done after a little practice. So far, I have not ran into any situation that I can't get out of, but I haven't played with it enough.

Another advantage of going to OOo directly is that there is a bit more screen real estate since there is no LXDE taskbar.

As debernardis said, all application shortcuts reside in:
/usr/share/applications/hildon/

What you can do to make your own is copy an existing one from there to your home directory like this for example, to copy the Word to Go shortcut:

cp /usr/share/applications/hildon/wtg.desktop /home/user/MyDocs/

You can then edit the file with a text editor like Leafpad. The most important value to change is the Exec value. Make the Exec line look like this:

Exec=debbie ooffice

or

Exec=debbie ooffice -writer

Also, the Icon line should look like this:

Icon=ooo-writer

The other values should be self explanatory.

Save the file with a new name, say oofice (it will keep the same extension, don't worry). In order to copy it into the hildon directory you have to become root like this:

sudo gainroot

Then simply copy it back like this:

cp /home/user/MyDocs/ooo.desktop /usr/share/applications/hildon/

PS: A good tip for the command line is to use "Ctrl i" to let the computer auto complete file and directory names for you. Just type the first unambiguous letter(s) and press "Ctrl i". That saves a lot of time and typing.

Do you guys want me to put back the OpenOffice icon in the Easy Debian package? I took it out to protect users from getting trapped in one of the many dialogs that are too big for the screen, but if you feel that it can be used in Fremantle...

Yes, definitely. Also, I'd like to have back that key combo to toggle maximized window (what was it? two keypresses were needed... I can't remind what you used to hook to wmctrl, I should see on my 810).

debernardis: I disabled the hardware key shortcuts because (1) we have different hardware keys now and (2) people were reporting problems with the script. Let me see how it works and we'll continue that conversation in the Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing thread.
