You can buy one of the SIM-only 1-month rolling contracts with someone else, so that you can switch back to 3 if you want when the fix is out. Or get a PAYG SIM.

No rumors or updates on when 1.1 might be released?
I will get the phone today but probably not be able to use it atleast as a phone.

42-11 is week_of_year-build_number, so the first half of the string will not be increasing much longer now, and the second half is effectively random from the public's perspective. More to the point though, the other name for 42-11 is PR1.0 as it was the initial firmware on the retail release of the device.
