I also vote NO.

I used voice dialing at the beginning. But I called to often the wrong person by accident. Thats bu**sh*t. I don't need this. They should use the time for other things.

I loved the Option at the N95 to spell the Name of the person who is calling during the phone rang. So I can hear who is calling. This is more useful than voice dialing.

No voice dialing for me.

a) Voice dialing never works reliably especially since many people have nicknames and they are similar, sometimes understandingly over the capacity of software.

b) Homonyms. Stop being so English. We all speak it, but a heck of a chunk of our contacts is in native languages. Can't be helped, it's his/her darned name. My last phone had it so bad I actually learned to speak N80. The phone installed voice software on me.

c) I don't know what YOU drive, but the noise in my car makes voice dialing less than optimal. Add music and it's downright dead.

d) Typing a couple of letters ain't that hard. With time, you start to know what to type to bring up what you want real fast, like 2-3 unique letters. E.g., with "Ben" and "Benny" and "Benjamin", typing "nj" pulls up what you need. "nn" also does. "b" pulls all three, with Ben on top.

e) I'd MUCH rather have voice announcing than recognition, e.g. I want to know if I should pull over and answer or ignore it. That really stings. I'd much rather have animated avatars in contacts (personalized video ringtones). Heck, I'd rather have a cookie.

f) Please, pull over. It's not more important that someone's life. Really. If it's life threatening, you should have it on speaker and auto-answer. Or get a secretary. I've never met a person that could actually phone and drive. I've met a lot that thought they could. I don't even answer when driving.

If this computer want's to have a phone it should have a phone!
I want nokia to provide it because the community does far grater things for maemo than nokia probably ever could.

I always hated nokia's way of voicedialing and the fact that it was "intelligent" aka no pre-recording required, but it sucks for non-english people that have non-english names in the contacts, yet like to keep their interface in english.

Nokia has all the right tools to implement this, the people with the experience of doing it year after year and the duty towards it's users to do it!

I have the Nokia E66 as a work phone. Since the bluetooth stack in the N900 has been proven to be very buggy causing choppy and useless sound I couldn't use the N900 to connect to my car speaker so I use the work phone in the car instead. In that phone I use the voice dialing function (without voice learning) and it actually works like a charm even though I have swedish contact names in my phone. In that way I never have to use my hands to dial while driving. So, when nokia fixes the bluetooth stack (I will check after the update today), it would really come in handy to have that smart voice dialing in the N900. I would of course prefer to pair my private n900 with the car bluetooth speaker instead of my work phone.
So you see, a feature like voice dialing could be very useful when it comes to safety in traffic. I sometimes see people driving while pressing keys on their phone, driving like they've been drinking a bottle of whisky. Here's the usual look in my face when I see that:

He he, I used it very often .

Voice dialing with the bluetooth in the car is excellent.

Eventhough a lot of people have a similar name, well for those people that I call often, I will create another nick name that will definitely unique so I dont have a problem to call it using my phone.

So my vote is: YES.
