i'm going to grind down these two spring loaded clips on usb plug from charger.
usb data cable is quite easy to go in and out but charger plug is bit different and you have to pull it fair bit harder to get it out.
bit frustrating to have to do modifications like this on item that i didn't get from reject shop

Is that week 49?

Yes I agree. Those two "teeth" make it a little tighter and it probably doesn´t need to be.

The plug for my Motorola Q has smaller "top" pins...you may want to look at altenatives before hacking up your OEM eq.

FWIW, "nothing is supposed to wiggle". If its wiggling, then the metal part of the port, in the pic from the OP, the "crimped", not soldered, band is coming apart. Once that comes apart/loose, then the black plastic "tounge" of the port will start to float around inside. Then the connectors to the circuit board will come loose...they are not "soldered" but "glued" to the board. Very, very fragile assembly. If you "wiggle" your plug loose, you're asking for trouble. Only the (4) smaller mounting points are soldered, and not very heavily. The (2) larger red squares (again from the pic) are "epoxied/glued", again, not very heavily.

This from someone who had the same thing happen after (2) charges. My 900 was ordered from newegg.com (USA) on Dec. 9th, after they ran out of stock 2-3 times.

I've started trying to get my fingernails between the plug and the phone's casing, and "wedge" it out.

Maybe the "hi-speed charger" cable needs a tighter fit to ensure it is safe to carry the relatively high current?

Doesn't excuse poor mounting inside the unit, though.

IIRC, USB connectors have evolved to put the springs inside the cable connectors - the original USB connectors having springs in the mainboard connectors - because cables are easy to replace when the springs get too weak. That shows how often USB connectors are normally expected to be inserted and removed.

Nothing in the N900 should wiggle at all - if it does, don't make it worse!

But when plugged in, USB connectors have always had a small amount of movement. As long as it's only the cable moving, slightly, with some force needed to make it move, that's ok.

I still would not wiggle the cable for fun. That'll strain the connector inside the unit; even a slight oscillating strain tends to grow microcracks until something breaks (same mechanism as metal fatigue).

To insert the cable I always line it up, then use the minimum force, smoothly and carefully. To remove it, I always pull it out in a straight line away from the unit to equalise the stress across the internal contacts, applying a very slight slow wiggle which reduces the force needed, and with my fingers on the connector also touching the case, to ease it out with control.

I don't take so much care with any other device! It's these reports of a bad internal mounting design, on such a valuable device where even sending it away for repair would be a great inconvenience, perhaps making me paranoid.

small wiggle is NORMAL, i got few other devices that use microusb and they ALL have small wiggle, its the plug that moves around a bit and not the connector inside n900 (or other microusb device) that moves

good luck with what? a FACT about ALL usb connectors?
seriously read up about usb specs and dimensions, they were designe not to have super snug fit (same goes for all firewire connectors) if what you saying was true we would see every device fail out there
i suggest you check out all other usb devices in your house, you will find they ALL have room to wiggle

I´ve seen units from production weeks 46-50.

Also if he OP says he´s had it for just over a month we´ve got to assume it´s not a pre-production unit, as those were handed out around 2.5 months ago.
The N900s are made all over the world in different production facilities. The location may be more important than the IMEI number, as slight changes in production and materials/parts will occur between different plants. Mine is made in Korea.
