TFTFY

I still play it on the original hardware; maybe today in fact since you mentioned it. It's still the best. It will rise again.

We may not have billions of apps to choose from, but the fundamental applications that the vast majority of end users would use are available and supported by a community that are actually quite passionate about getting it right.
Nokia depends on people like you to keep your mouths shut.

Does the n900 community have a high percentage of whiners or are they just customers who know they deserve better?

Is that a trick question ?

Anyway, just a FYI, what has been announced not to be supported on the N900 is Harmattan (previously known as Maemo 6), it just sounded silly because now everything is called MeeGo. Support of MeeGo (as the project hosted by the Linux Foundation) means little-to-nothing as that is not the flavour end-users would be using anyway, regardless of version (not on a Nokia device, not on a Samsung, LG or you name it). The most important projects, funded by Nokia proper, about which most users have minimum knowledge/clue, but should be the ones to ask about as THOSE will determine what they will actually have, is the "N900 MeeGo hardware adaptation project" and the "N900 community support for the MeeGo-Harmattan release from Nokia". Yes, horrible names, but those things are what you really want, not the generic 'MeeGo on N900'.

Maybe we can get the chance to put our questions/concerns to Nokia themselves tomorrow:

He said yes.

So tomorrow 5 August between 6-7pm GMT (10-11am PDT, 1-2pm EDT) Niklas is inviting you to spend an hour answering your questions and feedback on his Twitter channel @NiklasatNokia.
Imagine if all the people from here jumped on this, with all the issues some of us have, we might get some sort of a response.

This whole concept of "whiners" and "trolls" is just plain pathetic from a lot of you. A bunch of self-righteous jerks that get off on expounding the beliefs that you're just so gosh darn happy with your damn N900 and Maemo 5 that you're ignorant to anybody else having a problem that you may or may not be having. Geek egocentrics is just as bad as the so-called "iSheep"... all you are doing is just fulfilling the other half of what makes a bad consumer model - compliance and ignorance.

I typically ignore the rants and raves of this forum because it's pretty much the one place I can go to where it's a good collective of intelligent people that know more about Linux and/or Maemo and ultimately Nokia products and their (currently) misunderstood product path.

But seriously. To label folks that want bugs that do exist to be fixed is considered whining now? Last I checked, that's called support. And customers deserve support... especially for a phone/internet tablet/whatever your semantic laden rhetoric dictates the N900 to be to you and your geek soul has latched onto, that was just released in HK, India and a few other larger markets.

Do I have one still? No. But I use one. And I can admit that it's a flawed device. But unlike my N810, some of the flaws now get in the way of me making phone calls - I actually talk to people on this thing, imagine that - and the fact that I'm an Adobe Flex/Flash dev, I'm also producing stuff that I no longer cannot view on the device.

But whiners? The sheer amount of posturing and malicious stances opposed to anybody saying that they want some support is just sickening. Some people just want some damn support. Either offer it or avoid the thread with what you consider a "whiner" because you've become what you hate the most somehow... a whiner yourself.

Flame away. By now, I think you guys know I truly don't care.

Meego is the same as the Linux connotation vs. denotation problem. At this point I think you might as well go with Meego's connotation rather than denotation. At least until other (if it happens) Meego devices arrive.

Edit: And Jesus Christ is this community falling apart.

I'm pretty sure at this point, it's more like it's shattered into a million pieces all over the floor.. and at this point we're just tap dancing on it's remnants...

I want to understand this, because if my current understanding is correct, there might be a faster way for you to get to your call.

When you say locked, do you mean screen lock or device lock? I get the feeling you mean screen lock (no pass key needed), and not device lock (pass key needed), true?

If the above is true, it seems you're using the power button (on top between +/- and IR port) to unlock the screen. If so, maybe try using the screen lock/unlock slider (on the side with headphone jack) or try opening the keyboard. Both of these methods unlock the screen instantly, no on-screen sliding necessary.

If I'm way off here, sorry for the post.

The way this community is going it will cease to exsist soon if it carries on like this because too many idiots who want to put people down for raising what... the TRUTH !!!.

Upto now nothing has been submitted on this thread that proves anything but one thing... the N900 is not going to get Meego and will most likely not get any future updates from Nokia so as soon as people fully realise this the better then the whole thing can move on to the next disaster from Nokia.

Please prove me wrong here for every owners sake of the N900.
