Actually, that's not true. On a strictly kernel basis: CX3110X+UMAC was closed before (N8x0 wifi) and stlc45xx was the open source variant, now p54spi in mainline kernel. So there's precedence. In Maemo5, kernel is fully open source and so's all the kernel drivers/modules.

While some might argue this isn't 'open sourcing': Telephony stack and audio paths was entirely closed in Maemo5 and is now getting replaced with an ofono based solution, with the audio paths being opened (some filters not included but not immediately needed). To the extent of being able to send/receive SMS'es and make phonecalls.

I´m starting to feel really really disgusted about you gerbick. You just keep on nagging on issues that YOU think are the biggest ones. And this rather small group of devels here are doing quite wonderful work for free to make n900 more usable to end users like you. Why you still keep on jumping here? To correct people in that are wrong?

You want Meego with phone functionality NOW. You want nitdroid with phone functionality NOW. If someone speaks about actions and progress you jump in thread and keep telling how things are not as you liked to them be. What is your problem really? Install hildon-desktop install pulse-audio, install custom modest or install some of qwerty´s hacks. There you have different kinds of maemo OS for your N900 in your way. No need to rip whole system to make another HACK. It´s made from modules that you can yourself update from upstream (if you have knowhow) or just edit them by yourself or maybe perhaps hack some closed bits and parts as qwerty did.

You compare different operating system to different hacks of android. That´s just weird way of seeing things.

Wow. Disgust over an opinion?

The **** isn't that serious... well, to normal people it's not. And I'm talking about the upgrade to MeeGo, not a hack - which I will do anyway. Just like I'm waiting on Android 2.2, but in the meantime have played around with some custom firmware.

Simply put, I'll play only if I don't lose anything. You wish to relegate this into some personal attack, just PM me. I'll entertain your disgust there.

Otherwise, other opinions exist. 'Tis a fact of life.

The only comparison (bad) I can find:

you asked for it. the guy is disgusted about your attitude and way of representing things. now you are trying to mess (again) things up. it is not the points you address but the way you keep defending them and eventually starting to mess things up in order not to loose a battle in the internets. finally you throw some "you are a bad person" -slogans and stop answering valid questions. so lets think about why someone is disgusted about your behaviour... e: not even talking about the way you are biased against maemo for default, ignoring every single argument making your arguments invalid.

first of all change filesystem of a drive. wohooo! that is so advanced that I never could even dream about it with my n900. now I cry because I know you can do it with your androids.

custom firmwares.. who the f... needs them when you can install for example modified hildon-desktop straight from a deb? of course matan could pack it up to .bin and we would all need to reflash in order to get modified desktop up and running...

Some people take themselves way too serious. Glad to know I'm influential enough to mess things up.

For my next trick... a volcano!

What components will remain closed? Since the ofono based solution seems to have helped out the NITDroid project. It seems the more hardware components that are open sourced then both Meego and NITDroid benefit from it.
