The n900 is one of the few phones where the screen is visible under sunlight - the n900 screen has a transreflective layer....
No it's not. I have this thing mounted in my convertible, and it's unreadable most of the time when it is sunny outside. If it's cloudy, it's perfect. If the N900 trully has a transflective layer, it's one of the shittiest I've seen.

Wow. Disgust over an opinion?
The **** isn't that serious... well, to normal people it's not. And I'm talking about the upgrade to MeeGo, not a hack - which I will do anyway. Just like I'm waiting on Android 2.2, but in the meantime have played around with some custom firmware.
Simply put, I'll play only if I don't lose anything. You wish to relegate this into some personal attack, just PM me. I'll entertain your disgust there.
Otherwise, other opinions exist. 'Tis a fact of life.

Actually, that's not true. On a strictly kernel basis: CX3110X+UMAC was closed before (N8x0 wifi) and stlc45xx was the open source variant, now p54spi in mainline kernel. So there's precedence. In Maemo5, kernel is fully open source and so's all the kernel drivers/modules.
While some might argue this isn't 'open sourcing': Telephony stack and audio paths was entirely closed in Maemo5 and is now getting replaced with an ofono based solution, with the audio paths being opened (some filters not included but not immediately needed). To the extent of being able to send/receive SMS'es and make phonecalls.

As you go on to other communities, remember to build them around politeness, respect, trust and humility. Be wary of poisonous people and deal with them before they end up killing your community.. Seen it happen to too many IRC channels, forums, open source projects.
