Addison, in your Google Voice account, check if 'Call Screening' is activated. You can either turn it off, or save all your 'trusted callers' in your GV contacts. Also try to activate "Forward your calls to Google Chat".
That sorted things out during my initial setup.

Clicking the box "Google Chat" on the Google Voice web page settings worked for me.
