Hi trevarthan, thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

I findI find that a little hard to believe considering that my 5 year old doesn't have any problems getting it to play music. You put music on the n800, scan it, start kagu, tap an album, tap a song, and it plays. Maybe you could describe what you're trying to do and which part of that process is failing?
I have spent more time on this now and it seems that ogg vorbis files may not be supported? I have a few mp3’s and they work exactly as you describe. Once the (mp3) tracks are being played then, with interaction with the sound, the icons start to make sense and I can figure most of them out.

Is there a fix for my ogg issues? I have installed ogg-support and, as I have said, these files play perfectly in UKMP.

But... do they play with the default Nokia player? Probably not. And that's the issue. I've mailed the OGG maintainer about this and we're not sure why OGG support doesn't work *sometimes* on the n800. It works fine on the 770. And it seems to work on the maintainer's n800. But it doesn't work on mine or yours.

BTW, this isn't a Kagu issue. It's an OGG on n800 issue. The reason why UKMP works is because UKMP uses gstreamer rather than the Nokia Media Player by default. Kagu uses the Nokia Media Player.

This is why we listed Ogg support in the change log at the beginning of this thread as "initial":

* Initial OGG support (requires ogg support in the system, upstream ogg on n800 may be broken)

I'll see if I can harass the OGG maintainer some more about this issue.

Yes you are right, my ogg files are not recognised by the default Nokia player.

I had assumed that the installation of ogg-support would ensure compatibility but not so it would appear.

Thanks for keeping up the pressure, lets hope they fix this anomaly before too long. But if the maintainer's N800 works then it is probably hard for him to know where to start.

Sorry if I gave the impression of doubting Kagu on the basis of this issue. Not so, i was taking responsibility for my being a bit thick in not grasping the interface.

trevarthan, thank you for your reply,
you asked me:

>>Hmmm... I don't understand this request. Could you elaborate? What would the playback buttons do when nothing is in the playlist?

i think they should simplay play back the song which i have selected..!!! so it should be able to play back a singel song or an album WITHOUT havin to create a playlist first! at the moment the behaviour of 1.0.6 on my N800 is the following:
- start kagu -> choose one of the albums and tap on it
- the songs of this album wre showen, but there are NO PLAYBACK buttons on the right side!!! the right side is EMPTY (i think in 1.0.4 I did have buttons at this stage)
- so I tap on CD+, I tap on the album picture (which has NOW TURNED into an PLAYLIST picture) in the lower right corner), now I can start playback

If I now change my mind and want to quickly listen to one song of another album I have to:
- go back to the album list
- choose the album
- choose the title->the title is not played back straight away (as the playlist is still playing), but it is only ADDED to the playlist
- i have to open the playlist again, scroll down, and choose my song which I want to hear

So what I think I am asking for is: do not automatically play back only from the playlist, but if I open kagu fresh and select an album and one song inside this, please just give me the playback buttons so I can play bacl straight away. However, I do understand that it would be necessary to differentiate if someone wants to ADD one song to the playlist, or if he/she just wants to play back the current selection.

Maybe if I get used to the playlist idea would be the most easy..--)))
And Yes, the START/STOP on the enlarge button also has something to it, I have to admit....

sorry for the long post, those functions are very easy to SHOW on the N800, but vey hard to describe in words..

Thank you again, karl.

Or, you could clear the playlist, then go searching for the new song. Then it will play immediately when you select it. Would save you scrolling in the playlist.

In a nutshell, you want the old 1.0.4 behavior back. No playlist. No enqueue. Hmmm....

There are a number of ways to solve this.

a.) We could have a button in the new menu view that turns off enqueue mode.
b.) We could have a button in the new menu view that changes enqueue mode behavior so that selecting a song plays it immediately after adding it to the playlist.

There are others, but I think those are the easiest. b.) would be particularly easy, I think. Does that sound reasonable? Any other ideas from anyone? disq?

trevarthan,

thank you for reading my long post, i know you have a lot do do...

yes, solution B) would be enough (adding to playlist and jump to it immediately).

BUT: if its only me who is whining, please just ignore it...--))) there are so many other interseting features on your roadmap....

best regards, karl.

I finally have the 1.0.6 installed and working. I just installed the "broken" version of 1.0.5 and clicked update, and it updated through that with no problem. I'm going to look into the maemo mirrors problem. Thanks again for this wonderful app.

Hi, I checked the status of the tickets for 1.7 and it shows that a lot of progress have been made. Thx again for all your work. Have you got an ETA for the next release by any chance?

I finished up the release yesterday, but unfortunately our usual release guy isn't available right now, so I'm having to apply for an upload account to the "extras" repository. I've heard from other developers that it can take a while.

I'll make a formal release announcement once 1.0.7 is available from maemo.org. But for now, anyone interested can download the official 1.0.7 release from the garage page here. Here's the changelog for 1.0.7:

* Added Artists and All Songs views
* ScrollWidget now support really really really long lists
* Improved Album Art view (default to 300*X now)
* Plenty of bugfixes
