The Panasonic Lumix Phone 101P Might Not Suck at Being a Camera or a Phone
This thing is going to pack a 13.2MP CMOS Lumix sensor. In case you don't know, the image sensors in Lumix cameras are pretty great. It's also going to have a 4-inch QHD LCD screen with 960×540 resolution and a 1Ghz TI OMAP4430 dual-core processor. It's waterproof, like all gadgets should be (though we don't know how waterproof yet), it runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with some Lumix camera software on top (like their pretty terrific Intelligent Auto), and what the hell, let's throw NFC in there so you'll be able to use it as a digital wallet. Oh, and it's thin, at just 9.8mm. AND it's got a camera button.

I agree with you 100%
I was always an advocate for Nokia developing Meego parallel with making hardware with WP7. After all, one is software, one is hardware. It's so sad on many levels, I'm surprised NOONE asked Elop this in any interview. Why the cuss not.
Well, and this also prevents Nokia from having leverage over Microsoft the way they might. Samsung has already started discussing dropping Windows Phone 7. This MIGHT be enough to create some leverage with Microsoft--whereas Nokia has none, now. Not with this already announced public strategy. It would be an embarrassment to suddenly change it--giving Microsoft all the leverage. What an idiot of a CEO Nokia has at the helm.

You're clearly going to buy it anyway. Eventually, you KNOW you're going to hear it the moment you complain about anything: "You should have researched it before you bought it." It won't matter that there wasn't much to research, you'll have clearly not done it. Also... the drinking game thread now demands that you take a shot after reading that quoted sentence.

I'm trying, and trying but you just appear to be talking in a marble-mouthed jumble of letters with lots of misspelled or ambiguous words. I accept your apology for what I think might have been swear-words in there somewhere, I think.

As you so eloquently put it: "im no.1 iphone hater!" You, for one, are CLEARLY not an iPhone hater! Understood! That's what I've been saying! The iPhone is for people like you! And I desperately URGE you to take advantage of the spell-checker. You're welcome! Anytime!

No kidding. If you try this, I will sue YOU, slai, to keep our litigious American reputation intact!

It's probably already patented in the US anyway

You do realize that patents were MADE for suing... either to enforce them, or to shred a patent apart and kill it.

Classic American lawyer story:
Client: Can I sue them?
Lawyer: Do they have money?
Client: I think so.
Lawyer: We can sue them.

I don't know why overhead is so much but it is on wifi too. The real throughput of 892.11g is just over 25mbps, and you can test it by moving a large file over wifi
I cannot now find where was that article that explained all this but I remember that the HSDPA class of the N900 was listed as 21.1/10.2 so it may very well be as fast as your SGS2. Nokia has always been quicker than the competition adopting new 3G speeds.
isn't HSPA+ considered 4G?
HSPA is 3.5G
HSPA+ is 4G

so a phone marketed at 3.5G is only capable of HSPA speeds where as a H+ phone is equivalent to 4G which is capable of faster speeds. The S2 would be faster.

I thought HSPA+ only became 4G after carriers whined and whined and whined about it, and standards makers finally relented and let them call wimax etc. 4G, when they really should not have been called that.

so i guess the "real" 4G is now called something else. <= it's still called 4G, also..

edit+: something on this here:

Here in Aus, HSDPA will provide a max theoretical download speed of 7.2Mbps
Phones like the SGS2, with HSDPA+ will support a theoretical max of 21Mbps.

Both run on Telstra's "NextG" Frequency @850mhz, however makes no real difference as Telstra throttle their network to give a real download speed between 500Kbps and around 3Mbps.
Phones like the SGS2, here in Australia will never really get to utilise their theoretical maximum speeds, as the Telco's will use bandwidth throttling to maintain network redundancy (and thus save money on investing in infrastructure upgrade works)

Whilst it seems like our friends across the water like to market HSDPA+ as "4G", do the Telco's there actually support this with real maximum speeds on the Frequencies they run on?
If not, HSDPA+ may not be of much use after all.

Yeah, but you need Flash for that. So it's no use for the N9.
