Look at the potential volume of this problem! That's why they have their head in the sand...

Argh! Every good engineer knows that the longer a problem is allowed to go undisclosed, the more it will cost the company to fix it. As a matter of fact, the cost could go up an order of magnitude at each stage!

if there are no hardware issues, there are softwares

if no software issues, now came in hardware problems,

i hope there will be more serious than this and other issues from past devices in the future

I think 10 letters is way too big for the minimum post size.

From previous discussions here (either in this thread or elsewhere), it turns out that not everyone's box has the date, or the telephone icon for that matter, unfortunately.

this remind me the buzz bug on openmoko freerunner which could have been lethal to the company ....

BTW a wiki page on the issue would be better to investigate on which series are screwed ...

Should it be safe to wait before purchasing a n900 ?

I had no previous problems with the charger socket but read this topic and thought why not if i can take steps to avoid any problems it seemed like a good idea to try it.
I had a spare usb charger so i filed the hooks down just to test whether the connection is still as solid and it seems no different and now when i remove the lead from the phone it comes away much easier.

Its not good to hear that so many of you have had problems with the charger socket but after adapting my spare charger i would recommend this to prevent any future damage.

That may all be well and true. But what has that got to do with the real world? Witness a little company called Toyota?

Are you suggesting they have no engineers working there? Also, engineers don't make these type of decisions a lot of times.
