I've updated http://wiki.maemo.org/Easy_Debian, in particular the section on the keyboard and also the FAQ on locales settings, in case somebody (qole?) wants to check. I've also added a small list of other applications of wider interest to power users.

This thread is so long now that some of the more crucial information in it should be archived in the wiki, I think.

Thanks, rebhana, I was thinking that I need to spend time on the wiki myself.

This international keyboard stuff is just not something I can answer.

I need to go through the wiki page and clean up the FAQ and stuff, and make two sections for the N8x0 version and the N900 version... Maybe on the weekend...

Hi there

great job so far, i had this running fine for a while and i loved it! keep up the good work!

Suddenly today debian lxde has decided to not work for me at all now so im in the process of getting it to run again but nothing seems to work so i thought i should report it somewhere.

Started 2 days ago while attempting to install the lastest updates through apt-get but they failed on the last few packages. anyways after closing down debian lxde and rebooting it later that day it would start to load but then crash back to the maemo 5 desktop (on a N900 btw). Since im quite new to the whole linux OS i was quite confused so i tried to reinstall the image using the shortcut and that failed to fix the crash. so in desperation i deleted the img file and uninstalled easy-deb-chroot. Now i cant reinstall easy-deb-chroot!

i have managed to download the img file seperately but when i use app manager to install easy-deb-chroot i get the following message:

unable to install 'easy-deb-chroot'.
some application packages required for the installation are missing.

Clicking on details gives me:
Application packages missing: bzip2

i have also managed to download the deb file for easy-deb-chroot but i cant get that to install either. any help would be appriciated.

u1tramarine: Have you got all of the official Nokia repositories enabled? bzip2 should be in one of those repositories.

An alternative is to enable Extras-testing and install that version. It should work better, anyway.

hhhmmm Jdownloader is written in java and quite heavy un the CPU, even an my Desktop (AMD Athlon X2 3000+) startup is beyond good and evil. And on the 900 java is a real pain in the ***** but at least it runs :-D

Don't know about rightclick in JD but everything can by done by buttons or menu

I also described the usage of xbindkeys provided by Easy Debian there, the hack regarding sticky keys etc., so that part you might want to check.

I still haven't figured out how the environment of Debian chroot is set. As I wrote here, I couldn't modify that by changing /etc/bash.bashrc. Could you give me some hints how I could tweak that?

hi guys and girls. would really love an answer to the following question:

as debian supports java, will it run the logmein application for remote support? thers a lot of people who want to know the answer to this because being able to use logmein for remote support from the phone would be fantastic.

I have in application catalogues:

Nokia Applications
Nokia System Software Updates
Ovi
maemo.org
Maemo Extras

None of them are disabled

Edit: Just tried to add the Extra-testing catalog but my n900 cannot connect to it!

Unless it has been removed, bzip2 should be installable from that. Have you done
Code:
sudo apt-get install bzip2
in XTerminal yet? (This assumes that you have rootsh installed.)

Doing that in X-Terminal gives me:
Package bzip2 is not available, but is referred to by an other package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source
E: Package bzip2 has no installation candidate.
