I think I would prefer a double tap on the home button or a long press for itching thumb to bring up the app 'cards'. I still like the multiple desktops and would prefer this as a default.

Also, the icons on the bottom of the screen have been removed as of beta 4, which is something that I like. I like that the app is specialized.

Still, itching thumbs just increased the value of Android dramatically in my eyes. Its a very, very nice task switcher!

EDIT:
It seems that you can bind itching thumbs to ADW long press of the home button! ADW to the rescue! I'm assuming that it's ADW as CM6 has ADW installed by default.

From the Itching Thumbs forum:
I couldn't get the double click feature working that makes itching thumb pop up. I did, however, bind itching thumb to my long press home button under cm6 settings and this thing is smooth as hell!

It's a shame that it only works in portrait mode though

Lack of a landscape mode is a shame, but it's only a matter of time before this feature is added -- I'm sure.

Itching Thumbs FTW. Terrible name, though.

This will work VERY well with the Tab (assuming it works well with the 1024x600 res). I can't wait to show this off!
Just re-booted over to nitdroid, grabbed this from the market, gave it a quick test run. Seems to work pretty well. I'm sure even better with some tweaking. It gives, at least the feeling of, a task manager style similar to Maemo. Not multitasking, but the feeling of it.

Nice find! Keeping an eye on this thread as I'm very interested in an Android tablet.

Agree fully. Instead of Acer if this was an Asus product - I would jump for it. In fact looking forward to the rumoured Asus EEE Tablet that had popped up sometime back (and supposed to be Tegra based). Wait-and-watch is my approach too for now.

Great! I'm glad that you got a chance to try it out! It's in beta right now, so it seems that there's still features to be added, and I expect some really cool things!

I like the way that Android handles multi-tasking, by having a clear separation in the API for running background code, it allows processes to be efficiently cached to disk when not running. This reduces the need for task management (in theory) and provides near instantaneous starts and restarts of running apps. It also does something that the original Palm did very well, which was eliminate the need to *close* an app -- you just pick up where you left off.

Of course, this almost certainly implies that most apps (if not all) will cease updating their displays when they lose focus, and I would imagine that 'Itching Thumbs' is hard coded to only accept screenshots of last run as card images. In that way, it simulates multi-tasking, but does not feature live cards as the Pre does. But I think this is a fine compromise for many reasons. Perhaps in the future it will feature 'live cards' as the API and the hardware sophistication permits.

I would really like to see a landscape mode for this, as this is one of the major features of the BlackBerry Playbook UI that has everyone hot and bothered. I expect landscape mode is coming as the software matures. It seems that the developer has a keen eye for the user experience.

I love the flexibility of Android and the growing developer enthusiasm that leads to wonderful programs like this!

For sure! I'm also interested in what Dell, Motorola, and possibly HTC have to bring to the table. I give Asus a 50/50 chance of getting it right, but having been in the mobile space, I imagine that Dell/Motorola/HTC will have very strong offerings.

But I can't wait too long as a tablet is something that I can use today, and the Tab is a quality tablet. The only feature that would make me consider another is the Tegra T20, but only if everything else matched up.

1.6GHz Overclocked Vibrant bodes well for the Galaxy Tab!

It seems that the Galaxy Tab may be good for some overclocking! The Vibrant has been taken to a crazy 1.6GHz. The speeds are unreal!

Definitely looking forward to seeing what HTC bring to the table. Given how impressive their phones are they would be my manufacturer of choice for an android tablet.

Here are some Galaxy Tab ads for the UK. With ads like this, and great user experience, this will do very, very well. Take a look!
