Ok, so now when I view the folders in the browser I get some folder icons. However there is no text to identify them and the links all point to # so clicking them has no effect. This is the case for all folders apart from 'Untagged'.

If I try to browse from the N900 as soon as I click on any folder apart from 'Untagged' the client crashes, where as before it would simply say nothing found.

Wow, there must be something badly off with the database. Any chance you could come to our irc channel or pm me and provide me a sample of the database? File is located at ~/.config/knots2/knots.db

I believe something is wrong with the "update only selected" - it only updates the first folder.

e.g. if I select folders A, B and C, then browse by path will show all three folders, but give me "no results" if I click B or C.

Yeah, It's meant for one path at a time, but the list allowed multiple selections it seems. Fixed in git, thanks.

I have a mess here!!!
I did all the steps : install VLC media player, install Knot2.
I am using win7 64bits
The VLC is installed in c:/program file(86)/videoLan/VLC
Knot 2 is isntalled in C:/program file(86)/knots
Then i start server in Start ->all program->knots->start server
Then enter configure server
It would open the browser with this link: http://localhost:1978/

Next i click on Collection button->choose the path that lead to my media folder on my Pc let say C:/Media collection->update collection-> Done it sees all the files in the Media collection.
Then i open knots on N900->open menu->transcoding profile there many profiles such as Nokia N900, local playback, browser, tablet browser....etc. However i chosse Nokia n900 and another is Browser->Connect automatically->Done it shows connected.

i do see folders and files on the pc from my phone.
I tried to play a song and it plays but no sound.
did i do anything wrong?

Make sure you install the latest client from -testing like instructed here.

For music try Passthrough profile first. If it says vlc is running on server's "status" tab, everything should be ok. If it tries to play and then quits, it's most likely your firewall blocking port 19780.

Thanks for answer..However, the problem is not from connection. I checked everthing and all fine.
knots can play the whole song, load image. But when playing music there is no sound. The lyric works fine too.
I tried passthrough profile , it stil not work BTW.

Looking for another solution.

It would be nice if issues like these could be solved. Once the song is playing, could you open another music player and tell it to open http://localhost:19780/stream.asf ?

Once you start a stream, it can be accessed with any media player. So when N900 is playing music, start a VLC client on your PC, select open location and tell it to open http://localhost:19780/stream.asf

If VLC can play it, then Knots should be working just fine. And client thinks it's playing because VLC says it's playing, but the actual player can't access it at port 19780. So you get progress bar etc, but not the actual music stream until player times out. So if possible, try closing all software firewalls and virus scanners (disconnect from internet just in case) and test. For some reason these issues seem to only happen on 64-bit Windows, but I've heard success stories too.

EDIT: Oh and forgot to ask, can you get audio / video if you use the browser to play stuff with the Browser profile?
