I'm waiting and thank's a lot!!
For example your friends number would be:

0612345678

Then you would have to change this to:

+39612345678

Not sure if this will change in the future when contact sync is made. I'll leave that for Scorpius heh.

I know, i found ruby script for asking about a range of numbers. Whatsapp Inc. does save that data as said in privacy policy, and all the data obtained could be selled in a future. That's a privacy violation and Whatsapp might be banned in Spain because here, Whatsapp privacy policy is incompatible with privacy laws. No way to relate them? I suppose they have a great tree of human mobile relationships.

Maybe, maybe not. I want to do my best respecting my and others privacy. I know my friends don't have that respect for it, but if they throw themselves from a window, I won't do XD.

Because I can use a number not easily related to me (first I tried to register with an absolutely fake number) and add only contacts I knwo use it. If in a future my N900 broke and I have to get and Android, I won't use the oficial Whatsapp client. I prefer to pay for SMSs and continue using only Google-talk (That's what I done until Whatsapp Java por arrived to N900, while friends tell me to buy a new smartphone).

I tried, I even argued in various forums about that and another 15 reasons for whatsapp being worse than other Instant Messengers, being maybe google-talk the better.

But sadly most of my android-user-friends even deactivated google-talk and only use whatsapp.

I don't use Android, selected Maemo Did you read google privacy policy? I don't know about Android particular privacy (if it is different from Google general's one). Which are the privacy problems you see on Android?

malkavian, I think you should start a new thread against Whatsapp and stop whining about their privacy policy on any developer thread you can find!!!

@malkavian if you want to use Whatsapp you should comply to their policy. I should not give you a way to circumvent it. If you feel the friends pressure, then you should just give up.

If I add a way to avoid sync, it'll be just because bandwidth utilization (which is kinda big) not because a privacy violation. There's no privacy violation, Whatsapp is not wrong here, YOU are. The privacy policy says they save the status information, that's it. They are NOT saving who's querying who.

I just don't feel right when you say you want to use Whatsapp under YOUR conditions and not theirs. What's that? If you are a man of principles just don't use it. I'm a man of principles and I don't really want to give you a way to use the service they are giving you for FREE under conditions different than the ones Whatsapp Inc proposed.

If you're concerned about privacy then don't use a cellphone, because every time you make a call your cell phone company will save that number as your contact. Don't use the Internet either, every time you type an URL dozens of computers are saving everything you do. Don't use Google Chrome they save your passwords so if you use Chrome in another computer you don't need to type them, etc.

... and I'm sure after a year you won't pay for Whatsapp anyway so you should just give up now.

Have you ever used an Android? the very first thing it does is synchronize all your address book emails everything with every detail to Google. Nobody cares about that but you.

I might be able to help with this.

@tonypower88 & ahmadamaj: What proxy server do your institutions or companies use?

@Scorpius: Will Yappari honour $http_proxy if it is set?
