Someone has to make dummy libraries that point to the correct places. It is a task for someone who can look at the Android source code for libraries such as libc.so and libEGL.so and make them work on the N900.

(EDIT: Stskeeps did this for the Maemo libflashplayer.so to make it run under Debian...)
Android's Flash 10.1 plugin is also partially working in Safari Mobile on iOS with dummy library tricks:

The N900 should have a native version though.

It's not about it lacking the hardware or cpu speed if the Droid gets it later this month.

Droid does what N900 doesn't?

If Nokia is holding back for the sole purpose of marketing their next product I'm just going to sell my N900 and hopefully someone other than Nokia will release a Meego phone or I'll just go to Android. The lack of an official yes or no is really pissing me off.

At least Palm and/or Adobe is saying something about the webOS version (which if released for the Pre would make two OMAP3430 devices have what the N900 doesn't have). They just posted this the other day:

"Palm® continues to work with Adobe® to bring Flash® Player 10.1 to webOS™ as quickly as possible. At present, the integration work between Flash Player and webOS is undergoing extensive testing to ensure we deliver a high quality implementation." - Screenshot

I think we've got a better chance of hacking the Pre version than the Android version, just because the underlying audio/video infrastructure on the Pre is much closer to Maemo than Android's libraries.

The elephant in the room here:

The only reason everyone wants 10.1 is because a bunch of video websites are using codecs only supported by Flash 10. Nobody wants Flash 10 to watch Homestar Runner or play Flash games. So there's no point in having Flash 10 on a device if it can't stream video at a decent speed, since that's the only reason anyone cares.

So a hackish port from Android probably won't make people happy, unless the Audio/Video is working well. And I don't see that as being very likely...

Google streetview also depends now on Flash 10.

Technically, our best bet would be Harmattan's Flash - if we could lay our hands on it, that is. Though that is not strictly up to Nokia, they would still need Adobe's permission to publish any blob or source, and if Adobe cared or wanted to do that in the first place, they could have made those (either generic ARM builds or the super famous 'porting kit') available to the general public, but let's not play the blame-game again.

So a hackish port from Android probably won't make people happy, unless the Audio/Video is working well. And I don't see that as being very likely...
I agree it won't make stuff go from super-sluggish to buttery-smooth, but the lure of Flash on the N900 was not that it was a pleasure to use in the first place, but that it *works*, 'letting you experience the full web' as PR people say. This is hindered by more and more (not just video) sites shoving an 'update your flash player' message in people's faces.

Yep. I expect within the next year or so, most Flash apps will require version 10, whether or not they are video apps.

Of course. I thought that went without saying. But thanks for saying it
