Hi All,

I'm trying to get this example working on my N900.

But the tutorial is designed to be run and tested in scratchbox (which I don't have access too).

So I have the .py file and the .desktop file, and for the moment they are in "N900/Python" where I believe "N900" is an alias of somekind for "/home/user/MyDocs/".

Firstly, If I simply load up the Py file in PyGTKEditor it basically says it can't find HildonDesktop (which I would assume is already on the N900!), so my best guess is that the py and desktop files aren't in the right place (assuming that when importing HildonDesktop it is looking in the same location as the Py file).

So where do I put them? I can't seem to find/access "/usr/lib/hildon-desktop/" on my N900. Is that because that path (given in the example linked to earlier) is relevant to scratch box?

Many thanks,
Dex

Tawyn and z3phyr your invites have been sent.

By the way, I have borrowed a copy of O'Reilly's Learning Python from my local library, and the first two articles that rm42 has posted are a good summary of the first part of the book.

If the wave still exists, can you add me (I use ymbrads on Googlewave).

Dexter,

What I would do is create a new folder for your Python scripts. Something like:

/home/user/MyDocs/Py

Place your .py files there (ones you create). Open the terminal and go to that folder. Then simply type: python myscript.py (or whatever you called your .py file).

As far as the wave goes, I am now only adding developers to it. Everyone else can go to the published version of the tutorial:

http://www.themaemo.com/python-for-newbies/

By the way, the wave is now a bit out of date since I made some changes and corrections on the published version that I haven't had a chance to update on the wave yet. If any one already on the wave wants to help with this it will be much appreciated.

We also need to bring the code samples in compliance with Pep - 8.

Hi,

As I don't yet have the ability to PM here, and as my Wave ID not really a secret, could you please add me to this wave? mwerle@googlewave.com

Also, scanning the topics in the first post, a topic that's missing is 'how to package and distribute your python program'.

Cheers,
- Micha.

OK Micha, you are in. I assume that you are a developer and want to help out. Thanks.

Hi,

Can I be added to the wave? I already have an account: anderson.lizardo _AT_ googlewave.com

I might try to help on the PyMaemo specific bits (on my spare time for now).

It would be nice if you could post your tutorial URL (the "static" one) to the pymaemo-developers mailing list.

Good work

OK you are in. I also sent a note to the pymaemo-developers. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi, great idea!

I would suggest a large block about python and evolution (python-evolution module http://live.gnome.org/Conduit/evolution-python).

I am messing around with it and it is far away from being intuitive or well documented.
