N800, 43-7, 0.7.0-4

Installed TheOneRing on my N800, both calls and texting appear to work. Contacts get imported. However, many of the contacts have several numbers and only the name shows, difficult to know which number I want to use.

Unsure which rtcomm I'm using. Don't see it in app manager or listed via dpkg -l.??????

I just upgraded to 2.4-1 and everything is working for me. I'm glad someone else sees everything working rather this being even more proof that I'm insane.

One problem with single sourcing the code is what works well on one platform doesn't work well on another.

On Maemo 5 (which doesn't even have contacts lists working) you can merge contacts and having them all with the same name I think would make the merging easier. It also helps that it would show the phone number next to the contact.

On empathy you get a tooltip with the phone number which makes it not too bad.

On Maemo 4.1 it is the worst. You have to click for more information which then shows you the phone number.

Since the focus is on Maemo 5 I don't think I'll change this but if I were to change it, I would make the phone number or phone type a part of the user's name. I could possibly put in some hacks to try and detect each platform and change the user's name based on it but I generally dislike hacks.

I guess you could file an enhancement request against The One Ring and we could see how much interest there is.

Based on results of my own testing, mrdally204, and lemmyslender I have marked The One Ring as Beta quality for Maemo 4.1 This means I will unplug my ears and listen to issues people run into

Keeping in mind the current bug list, I'd be curious to hear what people think are showstoppers for pushing The One Ring into Maemo 4.1 extras and Maemo 5 extras-testing?

When making recommendations please list which Maemo version you are making the recommendation for.

Epage I did a little messing with it. I was able to send a text message but it was after some manovering. I would go to the contacts list, disconnect TRO click on the contact and chat was enabled. After I was in the chat screen, My email address showed on the left and the persons name showed under neath it. I then connected back to TRO. The email address then switched to my gizmo number. I switched back to the contacts list, they all had green near their names now. I clicked and the chat was gray again. Switched back to the message waiting and was able to send it.

@epage

I'll mostly be using my N900, so I'm not too worried about the N800 contact names. The 800 was just sitting around, so I thought I'd throw onering on it (no harm if I crashed it). So, I don't think I'll file any bugs/enhancements for it. At best it'll be a backup. I'm getting used to having a keyboard Just wanted to let you know it worked.

I kind of expected but thought I'd put it out there anyways.

I'm curious to hear what others say about this as the Maemo 4.1 user base grows.

Excellent idea. Worth trying.

For what it's worth, since mfe/google contacts sync is unreliable, I'd be happy with being able to use TRO to make calls with any contact number. Especially if the contacts would also show up in IM. Otherwise I'll end up with a lot of dups or other issues (contacts with 6 numbers, 3 sets of duplicates).

Bump, I'm surprised there arent more users/comments for this application. I'm hoping with the bup the people who missed the announcement will install and give some feedback.

Epage
what is the current setting for looking for new messages? I'm curious as to how often. Another question, do you have to show the contacts as "online" in order for the application to work? It would be better for my use case anyways to have them not appear online as it would make my messenger application easier to use.

BTW what messenger protocols are everyone using. I'm wondering if my AIM is causing the issue not being able to send a text. Its really bothering me
