Hello!

I'm using knots for some time now and must say it works really good.

I'm just trying to fine-tune my installation. Browsing this thread again i came over this part:

i did not get the epg to work Can you tell me where it should show up? Is there a plugin for vdr needed to make this work ?

Thanks again, ukki!

It should show the epg info where it shows info about every video/recording. You don't need any plugins for it. So it's always blank with every channel?

yes. In the knots tv category, i only see the vdr channels & a tv on the right side. I guess that's the place to look?

About my vdr setup: i have a heavy customized vdr system here. SVDRP listens on port 2002 (not the default 2001 port) but since i can stream live-tv i dunno if that it has something to do with this.

in the server syslog, when refreshing the channels list in knots i have
Code:
Nov  6 11:00:24 mtron-server vdr: [21507] connect from 192.168.1.100, port 47688 - accepted
Nov  6 11:00:24 mtron-server vdr: [21507] closing SVDRP connection
so svdrp seems to be working. Also the test script "./svdrpsend.pl -d 192.168.1.100 -p 2002 HELP" Connects and lists the svdrp Commands.

The knots log when refreshing vdr channels info:
Code:
[2008-11-06-11:00:23] Scanning vdr
[2008-11-06-11:00:26] Fetching channel info from http://192.168.1.100:3000.
[2008-11-06-11:00:26] Response code 200
telnet localhost 2002
Code:
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 mtron-server SVDRP VideoDiskRecorder 1.6.0-2; Thu Nov  6 11:10:24 2008; iso8859-1
EDIT: Sorry for the noise, it works now for a few channels. Just not for all channels that have EPG in vdr. I had a custom vdr plugin installed (control plugin) that did werid stuff on port 2002.

Try setting vdr_svdrp: 2001 to 2002 in config. Does your streamdev-server list different channel names than svdrp?

Thanks, i got it working (you might have posted when i edited the post above). I already changed the knots config, and
$ ./svdrpsend.pl -d localhost -p 2002 LSTC

reports the same channel listing as streamdev. (you might consider to use SVDRP channel list instead of the streamdev grabber)

$ telnet <vdr-ip> <svdr-pot>
...
LSTC

will give you the channels.conf in my case this is:

Code:
$ telnet 192.168.1.100 2002
Trying 192.168.1.100...
Connected to 192.168.1.100.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 mtron-server SVDRP VideoDiskRecorder 1.6.0-2; Thu Nov  6 11:45:29 2008; iso8859-1
$ LSTC

...

Is there any way i could debug why the epg only reaches knots for some channels? I guess you use LSTE to get the epg data? This outputs massive amounts of data on my system, maybe too much to handle for knots?

A Clock on the EPG screen that displays the current time would be useful Or even better a progress bar could be used to show the remaining runtime of the current event (according to the epg data transmitted)

Cheers!

Thanks to ukki's quick help I finally got the EPG working for all channels. The problem had to do with the Charset of the EPG (special german chars like δόφ cause this), but is fixed now

This makes knots to the best VDR Client for the N8x0

Actually it's the only one to watch Livetv, get EPG & watch VDR Recordings all in one very good looking interface.

That's knots at browsing VDR channels with EPG:

Ukki, i still would love a port of the Knots Maemo Client to run on a Desktop i386 computer.

The Interface would fit my needs perfectly for using it as "Media Center Software" on My Desktop Linux, which is connected to the TV in the living room.

I tried knots again, yesterday.
But I couldn't play a movie.
I build vlc myself, but it looks that didn't help!
Is there some logfile, where I can see the commandline which is used to start vlc? So I can reproduce it on a console. And perhaps also on the client side for mplayer?

New release. Nothing too visible, but lots of changes under the hood. VDR-support got the most love, thanks to many german (speaking) persons with their VDRs . Most visible changes besides the usual bug fixes (and addtitions):

- Switched from rexml to libxml. This adds a new dependency, but the speed gain is really worth it. Install it from the home page.
- Added support for multiple VDRs. This also changed the config format so please run the setup again if you are using VDR. You can now also choose the charset for each VDR if you aren't using UTF-8.
- Knots should now handle many VDR channels better (tested with 1500+ channels)
- New basic html-frontend. It was released before, but I never really announced it. You can now watch videos/tv with your browser or any external video player. Flash-video requires libmp3lame-support from your VLC/ffmpeg.
- Added lots of startup checks so Knots should now handle VLC's startup errors etc. better.
- Added a script to convert non-utf-8 characters to utf-8 if libxml fails to list them.
- Added an ability to join split videos. If you have split videos, Knots automatically plays them in a row. So there's no need to select individual vdr-recording files anymore.

So if anyone had problems getting Knots running before, please give it a shot again. And if anyone wants to help me with the translations, I'd really appreciate it. German, finnish, russian and english are ok, rest are missing some strings. And I don't have all the Maemo supported languages yet.

Special thanks to mtron and stangri for feature requests, testing and reporting problems.

i was also one of the annoying guys thanks a lot for implementing my feature requests, that's like every users Dream

I appreciate this very much!

Vdr is a very mature DVB Personal Video Recorder & Player Software. Knots can act as a full Streaming Client, meaning you can watch Live-tv (with EPG), Recordings & other archived Video files.

Together with knots this is a complete home media streaming server, that serves all my needs for the N800.

So thanks ukki - Great Release!

hi,

any chance of running on cygwin?
must use latest vlc? would 0.8.6 work?
I'd like to give it a try..

I've been using subsonic with ffmpeg or just ssh into my server to invoke vlc http streaming..
