people can always do like I did with some images: adapt some from here to be 3200x480 (better if 360° and loopable) and split it in 4 parts..
(!: watch out for legal stuff)

ms paint had a main role in this, lol; just don't try to save jpegs with it for high quality save as png and convert with something else. I have to admit that my pc (a poor macmini) had some trouble handling some 70 MBs pngs...

Final Fight - Bay Area (Round 4) completed.

Streets of Rage - Round 1 done, Castlevania probably coming soon.

Not sure if trying to stretch out a 512x224 Mortal Kombat map out to 3200x480 is a great idea, but I can try.

I made a change last night which I think everyone will appreciate -

You can now upload 3200x480 wallpapers!

The site will automatically split these into 4 these into four 800x480 images and submit the wallpapers as though you'd uploaded them individually.

I think this will help a lot because frankly, cutting up 3200x480 wallpapers is a tedious pain in the ***.

If you do upload a 3200x wallpaper, make sure you only upload one file at a time. Additionally it must be 3200px wide to get split.

Here is an example of one I did earlier: http://n900wallpapers.com/wallpaper/blue-marble-i

Anyway, enjoy!

nice code177, great work!
just a question: does splitting a jpeg image reencode it? is there a loss of quality? (even in the case it is very small, just to know it, sometimes I'm a bit perfectionist )

so far I did all the working and splitting in png, and encoded to jpg only at the end (not with mspaint!). splitting the png was done in mspaint, with an intelligent use of "flip horizontal" and "resize to 800/1600"
I know I'm a noob with graphics, but I had my method

Why bother reencoding to jpg? All of mine are PNG all the way through.

jpg is smaller, eats lesser memory (I know, small difference, but as I told I'm a bit perfectionist sometimes.. )
converting with a good program results in no quality difference (unless you zoom x100 maybe x) )
