If that's really ANY condition, you are either not using the camera right (like not focusing), or you have a faulty unit. Take a look at this thread as a reference to what the N900 main camera can do.

What gives? Should I open a bug about that?
There is already bug #8168 for the poor quality imagery, almost certainly caused by reflection from the chrome trim.

Incredibly it appears that a Brainstorm may be necessary to bring this design flaw to Nokias attention - yet another example of a one suggestion no-brainer Brainstorm.

Curious.

There seems to be two groups of N900 owners; some who are having problems (and at times lots of problems...), and some who seem to have no (or insignificant) problems at all.

I couldn't replicate this problem, no matter what.

All values at their default, with cover on, various lighting and proximity situations and greased lens as someone mentioned.

The conspiracy thickens....

Like Christexaport, I tried covering the chrome with permanent magic marker to see what effect it would have. The picture quality improved dramatically. The white haze problem improved significantly. This result implies that the chrome is partially, if not wholly, responsible for the problem. So, Nokia needs to:
1) Redesign the removable back of the phone so there is no chrome trim near the flash or camera lense.
2) Provide the new back, free of charge, to the current owners of N900s.

Here are some pictures comparing the unaltered N900, N85 8MP, and blackened trim N900.

I just took 200 pictures at a wedding. I'm so embarresed and pissed off that there was maybe 'normal' 3 or 4 pictures that didn't have something wrong with it. The lighting was perfect, because it took the pictures next to an extremely experienced professional cameraman. My N95 8GB took much better pictures..

I'm glad I took the time to read this thread. I have been plagued with the "bluish upper-right corner haze" as well, on all my flash photos. It's quite disgusting, if you ask me - I feel like I'm using my old instamatic from the late 1970's with the square, rotating, dsposable flashbulbs.

I'm shocked to learn that the chrome bezel is the culprit - who would put shiny chrome around a flash, to reflect and diperse light in every direction, including back into the lens?!?! What genius was responsible for this design flaw, I wonder.

I really do like my N900 but this is inexcusable. I am in favor of the proposal mentioned in this thread - a total back-cover replacement from Nokia for all interested parties, at no cost to owners of the N900. (Someone make a poll, I have no idea how to do that but I would be interested to see the results).

And they can upgrade that ridiculous, flimsy plastic kickstand while they're at it! I'm just counting the days until that impossibly fragile piece of plastic snaps off. Come on, Nokia, do the hardware justice, for crying out loud!

We need to get a letter out to Nokia and a letter out to the bloggers.

I'll write up a draft tomorrow and post it here, I'm not much of a writer, but at least it will be a start. That bluish haze in the top corner is really unacceptable and a huge let down. I love Nokia, but they constantly let me down.

I guess before, let's get a poll going to see who has the problem.
