Preparing my N900 for sale.. And by reading this forum it is pretty obvious I am not alone about this portrait issue!!

Thanks for your reply, I guess it may be difficult to get something from any official source about this..
Really? Selling N900 just because there's won't be FULL portrait anytime soon? That's dumb.. But hey, it's your life.. do whatever you want. But I am telling you this, It really does sound VERY stupid to sell the N900 over something like this.

For those who travel frequently on the subway or bus, one handed operation is pretty vital .. especially when you can't get a seat

Yes, but that wasn't the old behaviour. The old behaviour was "show the events in the next two weeks, then grab some random other events to pad out the widget". Showing the next N events would definitely be the best option though.

Brick. My phone update stalled. The reflashing wouldn't work. Tried several times. Now would not detect USB when I press "u" key.

Do I need to return this to nokia?

messus.
too bad for you that you expected portrait mode.
Just have a look at the overview of units at nokia.com, you will see that N900 is shown in landscape mode.

The unit is build for landscape opereation PERIOD. Even if I agree that portrait would be nice, I cannot blame any1 for the lack of it.

I have a BMW 2009 and I'm using the manufacturer's built in car kit. Used to work fine with all my previous nokias N97, E90, etc...
That's not how you do it. You have to export your contacts into "1 flat file" (vCard), and export that "one file".

One handed operation to do what though? Phone is already in portrait, browser is part-way there. Conversations would definitely be useful in portrait - other than that it's mostly third-party apps I use, which is down to their devs to implement portrait mode.

The bug says fixed in week 52, while this update is from week 51, so this fix is supposed to be in the next update.

Theres a difference between being annoyed at the lack of portrait mode and going to the extremes of selling your device because it doesnt have a feature it never was designed to have or advertised saying it would have. I knew the N900 was a landscape device months before I got mine. Whatever new phone you get, research first. Otherwise you will find some other fault and send that back too.

In regards to the new firmware, people say this is the update which should have been on the phone to start with. At the moment, I've noticed no major difference, except speed. It is snappier. It seemed to also (hopefully for good) fixed a wifi issue I had. Any update is good for me.
