I'm so happy with the size and diversity of the slate now. Funny thing: it's increased the odds I won't be re-elected, but I'm so confident that one or more of the other candidates will represent my interests as a community member that I don't even mind. I'll still keep carrying on anyway.

I sent this to the community mailing list last night:

The council election nominations close tomorrow, 23:59 UTC on the 16th
of March, please send an email to confirm that you are accepting your
nomination, or propose yourself for nomination, before then, if you
would like to be a candidate for election.

The state of play:

Confirmed candidates:

Randall Arnold (texrat)
Andrea Grandi (andy80)
Andrew Black (andrewfblack)
Steven Paolini Yeager (YoDude)
Javier S. Pedro (JaviSPedro)
Arek Stopczynski (Hopbeat)
Andrew Flegg (Jaffa)
Cosimo Kroll (zehjotkah)

Nominated, but nomination not yet accepted or declined:

Steven Gadsby (sjgadsby)
Gary Birkett (lcuk)
Attila Chipa (Attila77/achipa)
Ryan Abel (GeneralAntilles)
Graham Cobb (gcobb)

Nominated & declined:

Tim Samoff (timsamoff)
Valerio Valerio
qwerty12

Can people please take a second to peruse this list and tell me if I
have missed any nominations or nomination acceptances, please?

Of those awaiting confirmation, there are a couple I have never heard of
and I'm not sure they have enough karma to be eligible. Can anyone vouch
for that sjgadsby guy, or GeneralAntilles?

Note that this morning Attila and Ryan accepted their nominations, giving us 10 candidates for the moment, 3 nominations outstanding, and another 9 hours to go.

Gary (lcuk) did say he was unable to run... but maybe he did not make it clear enough?

(EDIT: sorry, he said he was doubtful)

texrat
making comments to people and discussing things out of band is one thing
i know the rules say i can run, but to date i do not know a single person employed from nokia or working directly on the devices has been on the council.

as much as part of the community as i am and really enjoy spending time liaising with users and developers to get the best applications possible and to try to help when things go wrong etc i am at the end of the day also employed to integrate patches from the other hardworking developers from around the entire maemo sphere.

i believe i am best suited to liaise with the community and the council to help guide developers towards the code and to assist the cheerleading towards the bugsquad to get really good solid reports and hopefully patches for any problems which might arise in our devices

nfact, just writing this has totally decided - im not running - good luck candidates.

lcuk, there is nothing officially preventing you from running, but I understand completely. I was urged to run while still a Nokia employee and was very uncomfortable with the idea.

No matter what, your contributions are highly and widely appreciated.

gary is surely aware that being paid to work in fremantle does not exclude him from being eligible.

You just need to be careful not to violate any NDAs or anything.

Dave.

dneary, i am careful with every word i say which is why i was deliberating and discussing in different places.
anyway, i know most of the potential council members, its going to be tough choosing between them
hope this one has a record turnout and that the council will no doubt do their best to support the maemo community and platform we have built together over the years.
