Only for their bits. Please go read and try to grasp the GPLv2, which is what covers much of Maemo and MeeGo.

Not without a cost.

Because they expected an App store and didn't get it is my guess.

There are loopholes. Go look at Tivo, and the proposed DRM mode of future devices. That's why the GPLv3 was written (and why avoiding it is going to be par for the course for MeeGo.)

Simple, they gave me awesome hardware to work with and didn't lock it down to the point of unusability. That's actually extremely unusual in the mobile industry.
They dont need an "app store" to benifit from this community, they just need to look and read all the good idea's for free that are being contributed here.

I'm curious as to what you see as my cause.

I've seen you are upset at how the USB design problem was handled. I am also. However, I don't see how that ties together with accusations of copyright infringement, so I'd be interested to know the unfairness you see.

You seem to jump around a bit.

Good lord!! Benny, Abill_uk and Crashdamage.. and everyone else please stop arguing and defending one another or Nokia, Please!!

Let us all think about the team work and united as one on this matter. I think things are getting too personal right now. So please be cool and calm. Take a little nap and a cup of tea or something then discussing about the resolution for the future.

We are not a lone and we are a community, if the community is devided then we all will fall terribly..

Because your not willing to admit that Nokia are not such a good company that your making them out to be and dont actually see my point that NOKIA are going to benefit extremly from this community.
All i am hearing is Nokia does this and Nokia does that but in reality they are in fact right now losing more customers than they are gaining.
This very community will be the saviour for Nokia because its all about Nokia and there up and coming os.

Dont panic lol we are only having a discussion here and i am no way angry, i am actually only trying to prove a point here but it seems there are some that will not admit that Nokia are in the wrong.
It is only a discussion.

What this community CAN do for end user of Nokia products is make them realise what is wrong and pave the way forward for a good future all round.
Yes this is a new entity and for it to be a success there are many many things to be ironed out.

Yes i understood my friend
I just hate seeing the community fighting over Nokia lol. The fact is that Nokia is not perfect and the N900 also. But it doesn't make me love my N900 less than I first got it in the mail and the moment of opening it. I can see the shiney light sparkled in my eyes.

Maybe it has to do with differing expectations and levels of satisfaction? The same reason this occurs with any experience?

As a former Nokia employee who helped launch the N800, and now a community leader frustrated by Nokia's occasional odd moves or silence, I've had the benefit of playing both sides of the fence. That helps one see the big picture. But you'll find that there are hundreds of people here, like sjgadsby and Laughing Man to name a couple, who didn't have that experience yet still manage that big picture view. You'd do well to slow down and take stock of what they have to say instead of being so quick to confront.

You misjudge Mr. Gadsby. He's not looking at the subject so childishly.

And for the record, in general: having a higher tolerance of corporate foolishness does not automatically make one a "fanboy", just as being disappointed by it does not automatically make one a "hater".

I personally think this whole qt thing is a really big deal. If developers use the n900 to build apps then that says a lot about the future of the n900
