Just a quick question...

I have an old 4gb PS3 with a faulty disk drive and this would be great to play my full games on this, do you need to have the disc in the drive to perform the back up or can the backed up game be ported over via another external device?

You can backup to external USB Drive. Has to be FAT32 file system.

Some games will not like this though, as they contain single files bigger than 4gb. which doesn't work on FAT32.

I have the psfreedom working fine with titan's power kernel 40 now.
I have both Original and Stealth backup manager installed in my PS3.
Just started dumping my FF13 game using Stealth Backup Manager.
It's going to take some time.... But so far so good.....

No you cant play games from the HDD, you need to have a real BDROM game in the drive for it to launch the game. So with a faulty BDROM drive it will not work.

well i wasnt able to backup anything into something working yet.

i just got around with NBA live 2010. the backup went fine, however when try to play of the hdd it freezes. now the odd thing is that if i put the NBA disc inside, it DOES work! it actually loads it the game from the HDD. wierd huh?! I am certain it is working because he asked me to install all the pregame data again.

it also kind of beats the purpose if you need the original disc inside to play of the hdd ;p
