...the -name or -iname argument of find combines find and grep in one command and, in my experience, is about 10 to 20% faster than find | grep.

E.g.:

find <start_path> -name <string>
find /home/user -iname "*config*"
Note1: All of the above is documented.
Note2: Possibly even in this thread, I have not read it all.
