that is normal. it is required to send the IR signal.

I guess I might be entering these wrongly as I don't seem to have any problems with any other apps I have downloaded too date.

What does "sudoers" actually control/relate to?

What do you get now from console (as normal user) when you run:
/opt/usr/bin/xbox360-media-remote

after pressing some buttons?

I am in close proximity and in direct line of sight, and i did enable the media remote.
