someone posted this before but here it is again.

only people who have broken usb ports, can you simple just reply with your manufacture date or some specific details about your device so people know which batch of n900 this is effecting. it will make everyone else a little less paranoid

also maybe if your n900 is part of that batch we can return it.

He's skimming, and still incorrect.

Point out to him that the correction was implemented at some point in production not identified publicly by Nokia-- which would mean some got the fix and some did not. We're not talking a single production lot here.

I really have to wonder about this guy's reading ability and general intelligence. Not impressed thus far.

Bottom line: he's wrong. It's covered by warranty. Keep fighting.

EDIT: I'm betting he didn't read my note to him at the bottom of the comments.

It appears the issue has been resolved. Brian should receive a n900 shortly. Hurray!

I stand corrected and would like to openly apologise to Brian May. I've investigated the posts and their origins further at Brian's correct insistance and it appears that, while the statement itself is not in the form of an announcement from Nokia, it appears that the OP, vandelay, in the Nokia forum is in fact an employee of Nokia as opposed to a forum member.

Someone else should give them a ring and see what they say.
Even if you aren't in the UK. If they ask why you're on an international number say you're on a business trip or something lol.

Their number is 01179 467505
Their (rather horrible) website: http://www.nokiawarranty.co.uk

I'm about to post my phone today... will keep you updated.

I took my phone to a Nokia repair centre in Carphone warehouse, Oldham, UK.

I was told by their repairs team that they couldn't fix it and it wasn't covered in warranty to fix this part of the device!!!!

They offered me advice to send the phone direct to Nokia, but couldn't be arsed with all that.

I was mad (Still am...lol)

So i took it to Vodafone because its insured, and now they are sending it to their Vodafone repairs team to fix, otherwise they'll send me a new handset.

Had the joy of backing up all my files with my spare battery so feeling slightly better.
Someone has mentioned that when you restore the back-up it won't install the apps only provides a list of them

If thats the case, its gonna be a long day installing all those apps again!?!

Just have to wait 2weeks before the whole thing gets resolved!

Nokia have to sort this problem out, because alot more people are gonna have this problem. I used to follow this thread even when my phone was fine, and i was extremely cautious about how i handled the device. Wasn't prepared for my foot getting caught in the wire.

If anyone needs advice...get insurance with your mobile operator just in case Nokia screw you over and don't support the repair....it wouldn't be the first time Nokia has screwed with you, so learn from others mistakes!

another "success story"
about 3 weeks ago i got my N900 back from a service center with denial of warranty. i immediately called a nokia service hotline, they suggested a 2nd oppinion of another service center nearby which they "work closer together". so i did that and today i got the confirmation that i get a new device.

the guy said that they knew about the warranty coverage from the day on vandelay posted on the nokia disscussion board. the reason why it took so long was that it is not their decision what to do with the device, but the one of "Repair Factory NOKIA". He said that it was possible that this repair factory was not aware of the problem.

if anyone from germany wants to make sure his N900 will be replaced i will be happy to provide the address of the service center i contacted, but i guess that by now propably all service centers will do the replacement.
