AFAIK there's nothing hw-wise which would explain why it performs much better.
Jay seems certain he is configuring both fairly/evenly...
So maybe the software's not actually doing what he's telling it to do?

I tweeted Damien Dining (Nokia's imaging guru) for a "please explain".
Particularly since 20hrs ago he made this bold claim:

I also pointed him to jakiman's comparison...
Hmmmmm well that's really really weird. Unless one he is misinformed of the actual specs....The sensor he described SUPPOSED to give superior imaging. Now I'm confused as well. I was under the impression it was a below spec sensor compared to other high ends

Maybe we shouldn't see the N9 as the last MeeGo phone by Nokia, but as the first phone for the next billion?

What do you think of this?
Soooo... step 1 of 1,000,000,000? Man, MeeGo will NEVER be good enough for consumers.

Take a look at some pics already posted.

Thanks to Slai for taking those pics, my personal fav is the bottom 1.

the thing to ask yourself is: Was the camera on the n900 good enough for the pictures you wanted to take? if yes then the n9 camera is more then enough. if you find you need an amazing camera then the n8 is for you. for me i was able to take some decent pics on the n900 and the n9 will be good enough for me. but i'm more into the phone side of things and instant messaging.
...or to put it another way: "You didn't research it enough before you bought it!" :P Right?

Nokia has not learned a thing from the N900 launch. Have that **** in place before you launch.
They had priorities. I'm sure Aegis is working flawlessly and you KNOW that they probably locked down the closed-source in there tight so you can't replace the main closed apps.

SGSII (& some if it's android ilk) is the only one likely to get close to that, & maybe the N9

there is a store in NYC I stopped into that can get pretty much any world phone. I asked him about the n9 he says he can acquire it and to call him next week about the actual price. I'll let you guys know if he can get em and how much. If anything i'll ask him if he can give me a discount if I were to order 10 or more, maybe organize a group purchase on the forum If i can.

8000 Pesos for 16gb Black & 16gb Magenta, no price on 64gb Black. Cyan will not be initially sold, there's a rumor of those coming within 45 days.

And it's not yet released, the release date puts that at 10/17 - or so. No confirmation on that, despite stock being received. Also not confirmed, if English is on the thing, or it will cost extra just for that - the one I've seen had English, but I know that the person showing it to me speaks more English than Spanish.

Confirmed - no US phones sent in for repair will be honored. We will have to find a way around that - SquareTrade Warranty perhaps? Also confirmed, no discount on bulk purchases unfortunately - still working that out with the hope of getting something for us.

I do believe though that all of the above is in the Community Purchase Plan thread I had started in the Community Forum from a few days back.

I'll link to that prominently from the one I've started...
Yours can be more for group focussed buys (mostly for NA I guess?)

Aegis security on an "open-source" phone that actually gets in the way of the scant few developers on that platform (even slightly) and I've yet to hear of any usage for this security for anything DRM related is not lost on me.

In fact, where's the movies? The music? The books? The magazines? And I don't mean ePub or DRM-less PDF's either - I already have FBReader on Android and formerly on my N810.

What's the benefit of this Aegis security? What exactly is it protecting? You, the media or Nokia?

And where's the rest of the **** that usually comes with a media savvy phone? I'm happy the web browser on the N9 seems to work well. As does terminal. As well as Angry Birds. But beyond that... the reports seem to be lacking.

Glad user/root/whoami got sorted though! WOOHOO!

Majority were US and Canada, but there's quite a few UK and other countries in the 35+ folks that contacted me.

So... 2/3 North America, 1/3 UK+Other
