We were suppose to get at the end of Sept, then mid Oct, now end of Oct, early Nov, Dec--no one knows because we can't get an answer... so yeah it usually isn't good business strategy to play around with the people on which your income comes in from.

When a phone comes out companies give a date, if the date needs to get pushed back, then they say there will be a delay... you don't just ignore your customer base especially with a device like this that everyone wants.
well, official announcement: "oct 2009 in selected markets" is still valid.

has those announcements been official somewhere public or is it a rumour that has formed into a fact in ones head? if it is publicly announced, pics or it didn't happen.

statement was stupid. like "why in the hell the LHC @ Cern isn't running?!? why aren't they consistent with their timetables?!?". answer: something has come up. perioid.

Nokia gives estimates, and people who are waiting for the devices must know themself that those announcements aren't facts but an estimate of timetable with all information available at time.

Exactly! It's not good business, and people in this day and age don't want that. Nokia needs to wake up and realize they aren't the same in-demand company they were six years ago.
Hahahaha I bet you two would wait until February if it was necessary.
I think the business revolves more around higher level strategies than release dates. Btw the frenzy these phone bloggers cause in the weeks before launching must be quite good for Nokia's business. The commotion preceeding N97's launch was like ..insane.. almost. No wonder they now sent out these "tryout" units to bloggers around the world. Guess Nokia wants the frenzy up a notch or two.

I am now 100% speculating but *launching* something like this must be a big operation. Getting the N900 to work with all services in OVI, PC Suite and what more must be a challenge.
Making sure support people are ready, 3rd party developers on par, software somewhat ready.
A phone like N900 like any other smartphone must demand quite a lot even after it has been sold in the form of updates and support.

Part of the tech-loving community want the phone launched as pre-production 'cause they can themselves update it once updates are available. Other part write long reviews bashing the software & phone & manufacturer for launching a phone that "doesn't feel it was ready for the market just yet".

From the info I got yesterday (Flagship store@Helsinki) Nokia will send the phones to the Flagship store and to the people that preordered at the same time.

Doesn't matter what your business strategy is, if you piss of your customer base kiss your company goodbye... When a company says one thing, but then does another without giving any explanation on when the product will be released people will tend to start having doubts... all we want is a date, thats it, nothing more... just a date, and when the date comes around if it needs to be pushed back, then fine just as long as they say 'we're trying for this date'.

Sure I'll wait till Feb for this device--if I have to wait that long and the HD2 comes out by then and the N900 still isn't released then obviously I'll go with a product that I know I can get my hands on...

I totally agree with, but at no time has Nokia given an 'exact date' just the run around, it'll be sometime in Oct, okay now mid Oct, no better yet somewhere around end of Oct, okay maybe Nov...

If you actually stand back and look at it, almost all the dates have come from us here in the forum, or Amazon, or Buy.com not Nokia.

Yeah, I'm disappointed. But I knew this was coming - their general website was stating 2nd Nov on Monday, and it was only a matter of time before the ordering department caught up. On the other hand, that's another week to concentrate on my thesis before I get distracted.

If this starts becoming a habit, I may have to cancel... my c905 is not holding charge and needs replacing pdq.
