Nitdroid 2.3.4 UMay ext SD clean install except multiboot menu

Jot down from memory in case I have to do it again, use your linux brain, (I aint got one 3 am in the morning ) and report error, TIA.

The wait is over, there is auto-installer for this UMay nitdroid. Almost straight copy from mrbilli and Fabry with minor clarifications.

1) Multiboot menu already set up, see http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=61338, 1st post, it is do-able, just plain typing text
2) a clean SD prepartitioned to 2 - 3 G, this is a 4G prepartitioned to 3G, it will get wipe out during installation, so use a new one or one can be formatted

xterm>root
umount /dev/mmcblk1p1
sfdisk -uM /dev/mmcblk1 << EOF
,<YOUR NUMBER IN MB for FAT>,C
,,L
,,
,,
EOF

3) dl 3 files straight into n900. And move all into /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid

http://downloads.nitdroid.com/nitins....2.7_armel.deb
http://downloads.nitdroid.com/e-yes/N12_UMay.tar.bz2
http://downloads.nitdroid.com/e-yes/..._rc3_armel.deb

4) read the following 1st posts several times, the truth is somewhere in between,
- http://forums.internettablettalk.com...ad.php?t=74641
- http://forums.internettablettalk.com...ad.php?t=72365
The error message 'bailing out, file could be corrupted ...' is misleading. The tarball is fine.
The installer failed to find your N12UMay.tar.bz2 file.

Dont use winPC/notepad or MSWord to make the nitroid.manifest text file. Do it on the n900.
vi, leafpad, midnight commander or whatnots. I used emelfm2. copy UMay, kernel and nitdroid installer files into /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid folder

Type the following text into a text file named nitdroid.manifest
==============================================
rootfs file:///home/user/MyDocs/N12_UMay.tar.bz2
package file:///home/user/MyDocs/nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-07_rc3_armel.deb
==============================================

Final check before installation: you should have those files in the right folder,
- /home/user/MyDocs/nitdroid.manifest
- /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid: nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-07_rc3_armel.deb, N12_UMay.tar.bz2, nitinstaller/nitdroid-installer_0.2.7_armel.deb

xterm>root
dpkg -i nitdroid-installer_0.2.7_armel.deb (you can use wildcard nitdroid-install*.deb)
nitdroid file:///home/user/MyDocs/nitdroid.manifest ".... proceed?" said "YES"

tar.bz2 extracted in couple of minutes, and see the text screen "Nitdroid has been installed successfully... " something like that
and reboot, and thats it! Somehow, my previous multiboot menu took care the rest.

1st run - log wifi>google log in less than 1 minute!

1st impression - OMG! It is MORE smoothier than my native LG Optimus V droid phone!
OMG! It is MORE smoothier than my native LG Optimus V droid phone!
OMG! It is MORE smoothier than my native LG Optimus V droid phone!

No crash hiccup for 12 hours straight use after dl installed 30+ apps.

The N900 is not particular warm. Posting n900 running nitdroid phone got hot are totally hogwash!!! no LED light blinking,
no strange behavior in 12 hrs use. Yes, it was plugged in during the use.
Wifi catch on 1st shot.
market ready for use
I love the screen resolution! It uses the-smallest-but-still-able-to-see font. That gives the most sceen estate.
With the way it runs on my class4 SD card, I am NOT sure how much one can gain by doing in the eMMC. It would be fun to compare under similar environment with 2 similar n900. Overclock? Maybe.

The phone features works in ALL aspect except transmit outgoing voice, i.e., you can receive/dial/hear incoming calls crystal clear and registered on your n900, even missing calls are listed, your party just hear some muffled sound from you while you can hear crystal clear sound from your party

THANK YOU e-yes. You are my NOKIA HERO. Nokia and google owe you, big time!

It has been running for 3 hrs straight, dl, surfing, posting, battery reports 47% full. And the phone is NOT particular warm, less mention hot. This reminded me about Tyra Banks (the pretty supermodel turned talk show host), "called me fat is one thing, but humongus is a far stretch"

I think I ask that Question before and forget about it. In Palm or even winCE(?), we can beam each other for business card or apps or pgms. What do you use to do this in android, the 21st century OS?

BTW, liveTV works, see here.

TIA,

Maybe. I have tried class 2 and class 4 in 0.0.8, difference is there, but not much. I compared 5 of them and FAILED to draw any conclusion. I am now using class 4; the smoothness is credit to 2.3.4. I wont argue there is difference between class 2 and class 4. However, I doubt the labelling of the class on your SD is correct. Mostly, the class on your SD is an act of randomness

Are you running 2.3.4?

I guess sometime bunanson can be a little immature, right?

maemo was struggling to get pass flash player 9...

Nitdroid on n900 has since 10.1, 10.2 and I just finished installing flash player 10.3, a sin as frown upon by steve.
