Maybe a dumb question, but does anybody get really good dial-out voice quality from Gizmo? I first tried it on the free $0.25 you get when I signed up and it worked great, but lately it is crap quality after I purchased $10.00 in call credits. I do the bandwidth test and it comes back as excellent (439Kbps) most of the time from my SBC DSL line. I have tried to call several business, my own phone lines, etc, and it is just crappy lately. It seems to be worse with 800 numbers. Maybe I won't be putting that Asterisk box together with SIP trunks for home use

Any thoughts???

It is variable for me also. Mostly it is a lack of volume problem and infrequently a call break-up problem.

In my experience, the call quality using Call-Out falls somewhere between a mobile phone and a land-line. Internet to Internet calls are always better although will degrade quite a bit if one side is bandwidth-starved. They have to do their conversion from Internet to POTS at multiple places so you will get transfered through different equipment depending on where you are calling.

If the quality of a particular call is not off good enough quality to you, I would recommend giving them some critical feedback as I have found them quite responsive and they have a ticket system that will allow you to dicuss problems offline where you can give them specifics that you might not want to share on a forum.

You could also try disconnecting and calling again and you might get transfered through a better connection.

Thanks, I will open up a ticket with them and see where that gets me.

I have a number of Asterisk boxes running for people that I work for. And I couldn't wait to try out Project Gizmo with them. As soon as the version for the N800 was out with the second SIP account I was all over it. I got it connected, tried my first call......and it was rubbish. Lag, delay, you name it.

So, on a hunch I pulled out some packet tracing tools. Much to my dismay I watch my packets leave my network, hit the Project Gizmo servers, and then FINALLY get to my asterisk box. Which of course still has to route them back to the Internet.

In short, its unusable if your trying to connect direct to your Asterisk server. When I inquired to them about this, I was told that it was a design decision and that they were sorry that I felt they had crippled the client.

Personally, I think they make it that way so your forced to use their network, and not your own asterisk box. So for now I'll keep waiting for a REAL SIP client to come out for the 770/N800. Which I can't believe there still isn't one yet.

You can search for their response to me in their forums. I don't feel like posting a direct link here.
Just my opinion....
