Since the announcement that joerg_rw that the Neo900 project has ended with no hardware to ever be available maybe it is time to move this topic as well to the Old heading for archival.
I also nominate Leste with already working installs and a realistic future to be on top above Sailfish as the next in the Maemo(Meego) family rather than below Maemo5.
Last posts were in 2017 in this major heading.

Hmmm....Is Maemo Leste working with N9/N950 and N900 including WiFi, phone calls/sms, bluetooth, etc?
Is it in better shape than PostMarketOS?

I don't say your idea is bad, but after viewing their pages I got impression that both OSes are lacking in hardware support and basic functionality. But maybe this info is outdated and I am wrong?

I'm simply curious and fully agree about Neo900.

But why PostMarketOS is ommited?
KDE Plasma is very good DE, so I guess Plasma Mobile is good candidate too.
It's using Qt5, so its direct successor to Qt4 used in Meego/Harmattan.
Its fully FLOSS (unlike SailfishOS, which is more closes than MeegoHarmattan, so I personally think it's unfair it's totally ommited on main page)

biketool's OP already answers most of your questions - yes, Leste is very much alive and usable. To what extent - test it, I guess.

Of course it would be nice to open more dedicated subforums; did you contact an admin already?
Nothing was "omitted", as you put it, but simply "not yet included".

So I tried a while ago in another thread to find someone with authority to edit the front page and categories. It appears that TMO has reached the half-zombie stage where there are members still posting questions and solving problems as well as useful dev work being done but the leadership is no longer standing for election and thus not being elected. Correct me if I am wrong but all of the leadership position terms of office have long expired without hand-off of responsibilities and executive power, there is crew but no officers on this ship.

For me a more real concern is not whether a dead-ended no-hardware project gets top spot but what happens to all of the archived solutions to problems and cool hacks as well as source code over in garage when hosting runs out.

As for choosing a final caretaker executive officer for TMO, possibly permanent/non-expring one with an occasional call for opinion on election, I nominate Maemish. I am not sure how to organize an election or if there is anyone around who can pass on the launch codes to take care of stuff like hosting payments anymore.

I am definately absolutely the worst possible option for taking care of anything. But I feel like that when Leste will be ready, that would be the right time for organizing a gathering for making plans and decisions about the forum, delegating jobs, making maybe a maintanance page with restricted access which would have all information concerning the managing the forum well organized. Goal would be to make it fool proof, ready to move kind of set, easily passed to next generation or people interested.

One concern is that sometimes people who are eager to take responsibility may be unable to bare enough people not living according to rules. Rules and guidelines are needed but so is freedom. On the other hand well organized and maybe a more controlled forum would serve better people searching for information.

And then there is a question what do people want this forum to be. For years this has been a place to share information and look for, but this place has also been a living room / a club, a place to hang out with friends. Now it seems that some formerly active members have step back a bit maybe because of some new members and the way they work (I for one has managed to post a lot off topic and also used pm to get info of things which could have been found by other means).

My personal hope is that Leste would get good wikipage in the forum and it to have someone looking after a bit that the info people post would start to find their right place from the start. Leste will possibly bring a lot of new users and to make things right would serve everybody. At the same time I love the atmosphere and freedom on this forum. There is the kind of kindness and politeness I like a lot, people not being besserwisser and baring noobs.

A gathering, that I think is needed. Maybe to start own thread for that. Maybe I will do that.

There is not much discussion about Leste on the Pinephone site where other OSes are getting more attention.
https://forum.pine64.org/forumdisplay.php?fid=120
https://forum.pine64.org/forumdisplay.php?fid=131
But I would really like to see even a Maemo5 skin for Phosh, I currently have Mobian on my pinephone. Until I can reliably use my Pinephone for navigation, a good audio book player, Bluetooth tethering, and integrate with my Pebble watch I will continue to use my N900.
It is already usable for web browsing, phone calls, and SMS.
I would also like IMs like briar and tox clients, as well as optomised streaming client preferably a plugin based one like Kodi though video hardware acceleration seems to not be implemented yet on mobian.

That bad is it?
Hm.
If there aren't enough folks to fill executive positions..
Then perhaps it is a good idea to have a benevolent Maemo tyrant in the driver seat.
I do agree that almost 2 decades of posts, the garage and more ..filled with so much hard work ..shouldn't disappear forever..

Soooo...a single exec sounds perfectly fine to me ...considering.

Oh goodness no...
I think Maemish is the perfect candidate for Grand Poobah here..
Concerning Maemo.. Maemish is determined, passionate, focused..etc.

I second his candidacy for such a position.

I picked on Maemish because he is motivated, loves all things mamo, he even bought that lot of N900s from some sketchy guys to have reliable Maemo devices to supply the community; he is also a native son of Finland. But after hearing his answer I also respect his decision. I still think he is a pattern to search for the best choice for dear leader or philosopher king, I don't think we have anyone else like him and have not in many years.
My question still stands, no matter what we desire is there anyone who can pass on responsibility at this point? Can any organized attempt even be made to prolong the existence of maemo.org and the maemo foundation or make changes to the website or the leadership?
I have never closely followed the leadership side much but I believe there is a constitution which is to be followed, but even if we do follow said constitution there are passwords, financials, and how-to for running the organization which must be passed.
How much of our maemo.org experience is automated payments to a website host from an inaccessible bank account? I think user Juiceme is the first stop as what I belive to be the last chief executive of the maemo/hildon foundation.

We are overdue for MCEV annual meeting as it has been quite difficult to arrange something that people could attend.

The payments are not automatic, but have to be made regularily to enable the network access and maintanance of our hardware at IPHH.

Yes, this is correct; I am the last active board member and in charge of the Maemo accounts.
