There has been a lot of talk lately about what the Maemo Community Council is and how we should operate. This is a good thing -- something that the first Council .

A lot has happened since the inaugural Council was elected. I won't mention it all here, as it has been discussed ad nauseum in a few other places. What I will say is that we have been busy. Some of our work has been public and some has not. Some has made people happy and some has not. But, what has become clear is that there are definitely things that could be done better... One of them is communication with the Maemo Community.

Because of this, we have decided to hold a Public Maemo Community Council Meeting, this Monday, 8 June 2009, at 13:30 UTC.

Anyone can participate at freenode.net/maemo-meeting.

Do you guys have access to a "global announcement" feature?
It may be a Vb add-on or is only available in the admins control panel... >> http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53004

In any event it allows one thread to show up in all forums at the top of each first page. They can also be set to go away at a predetermined time.

Qole: It's been sticky for a few days now.

YoDude: I don't have access (I don't think).

In any case, here's a reminder that the meeting is today at 13:30 UTC. Please be there if you can!

I'm usually in the field by 10:00 UTC until at least 19 or 20:00 UTC... Today I was running late and posted while I waited for my coffee to brew.

I hope all went well.

tim: not blaming you, it was my fault, I just thought it was funny that I'm so pro-forums / anti-mailing-lists and I didn't even see a big honking sticky in the forums, but I found it in the mailing lists...

I found the meeting quite useful to be honest. I think we need to try something radially different. Working on getting things done and most of all actively asking people what we can do. Perhaps just ask directly ask Mer people what we can do for example?

I think it went quite well considering this was a group of up-paid volunteers and a few paid Nokia guys. Would I think the meeting went well with a bunch of paid employees only, no, but the focus does seem to be getting more professional, maybe because the majority of the council has been there before and knows what to expect?

As for the Mer guys, they are very important to the legacy Nokia is leaving behind with the n8x0 line and should be consulted vehemently. Its all to easy to concentrate on whats shiny and new but one of my gripes with the 770 way back (http://linuxuk.blogspot.com/2007/08/...urage-new.html) was that with the pace of development as it is (and I'm a developer so I should know) its all too easy to leave legacy hardware behind. Mer and to an extent liqbase is doing a great job of squeezing every last inch out of the hardware and this should definitely be taken in to consideration as the n810 and n800 get even further discounts, and hence exposure, come n900 time. The council should have part of the agenda concentrated on appeasing the 'old boys' once the new hardware becomes available.
