That's my dmesg - first when it was a USB host it was recognized, but then when powered off it is not and disconnects. Following that:

So I put about 4 hours of work total into it.
Played with drivers and modules.
Tried different ports.
And still nothing.
Lovely.

Thanks for the compliment - I'll try to keep it up with as many cool neat hacks I can.

I still have had no luck with the flasher. Same error

When I get back from Reno, I'll try it with a LiveCD of a different distro. Could be Gentoo's fault or my motherboard's... It's a Via EPIA ME6000

In case anyone looks for this thread in future:
I solved it by using a Fedora Core virtual machine and VMWare. I suppose a Ubuntu LiveCD would work just as well. I never did actually fix it in Gentoo.
