if you keep it in stand by (sleep or whatever it is called) it should start up in a second, basically just lcd is turned off

Startup time is not really an issue. If you recharge the battery regulary, you can keep the device running forever (unless it crashes, of course 
).
).
I would like to use the Nokia to control my PVR and MP3-server as a remote control. However if it take e.g. 30 seconds before your intranet is shown, I'll have to find another solution.
