Anyone else have Modest mail problems lately? I don't use my n810 daily, and a few days ago I noticed it had not updated mail messages since before about Feb. 13 of this year.

I'm using gmail IMAP but have not changed anything on my Modest setup in a long time. Internet connectivity still works.

When I hit the reload button, nothing happens... like it's not even trying to load mail.

Things I tried are:

- my n810 memory is not full
- # of message downloads is set to unlimited
- I deleted the .modest directory, restarted Modest, deleted my existing account, and created a new one, but still nothing.

I just wanted to ask around before I troubleshoot this too much.

thanks...

It never really worked, and Nokia was never interested in fixing it, just like the "mediaplayer", and various other things. I've been using the mobile Gmail site.

Well, it had been working fine for me for a couple of years. Maybe I'll try Claws Mail again.

I could use the web mail like you're saying. I found it a little easier using the mail program though because I could leave it running and it would alert me to new mail and stuff.

Yeah, it stops on me a few times a month for no reason.

It happens more often when changing wifi locations.

Anyway, I guess to restart it, just type this in Xterm.

kill - 9 $(pidof modest)

For me though, the following is the script that I use.

gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/modest/accounts/AccountID/enabled True
gconftool-2 --type int --set /apps/modest/update_interval 1
gconftool-2 --type boolean --set /apps/modest/auto_update True
/usr/bin/modest

Not knowing how to do that, I sometimes just take the battery out for a few minutes, and let the process reset itself, for the same end result, I guess, but Gmail is just less of a hassle.

It's pretty easy to set up Wes.

Unzip the two files on your external memory card.

In Xterm, do the following.

sudo cp /media/mmc1/on /usr/bin/
sudo cp /media/mmc1/off /usr/bin/
sudo chmod +x /usr/bin/on
sudo chmod +x /usr/bin/off

In Personal Menu, I have two shortcuts.

Notifications On
and
Notifications Off

The commands to execute them are simply
on
off

Just note that you'll get a slightly faster battery drain since it's doing 1 minute checks for new messages.

Thanks a lot, Addison! I'm not sure I'm ready for that, but once I get a backup tablet (waiting for the next generation Android, that is supposed to be Linux - capable) I might give it a shot.

It's completely harmless and only takes up a few bytes in memory.

The default email app allows it to scan for new messages once every 5 minutes, this simply sets it to 1.

This is so much better, especially if you send and receive numerous phone texts throughout the day.

After reflashing I'm experiencing this exact same thing.

These are the default settings.

Any help?

I really depend on this app.
