Other phones have a heart rate application. It works by placing index finger over the camera lens. The app then detects slight changes in skin color as oxygenated blood passes through with each heart beat, and can use this color change to determine heart rate.

Is there something like this for the n900?

I believe the interested people in such app already know this issue. But I, for my self, think that it can be done way better for a new app, with no use of secondary hardware....

This sounds like a fun project. I'll see if I can do it.
I assume people want to use the front camera - we don't
want fingerprints on the nice rear camera lens.
