I am looking of help how to get my beloved Nokia N900 in a pristine condition (or sort of). Please have a look at its sad state.

When buying second-hand the condition was not the best some years ago. Now it started to make work more and more difficult. The scratches on the screen hinder the readability at certain light conditions.

My current budget is limited - what sort of remodeling would you suggest? Screen is of first priority. Reading the keypad the second one.

Somebody suggested displex http://www.amazon.com/Displex-00300-.../dp/B00CFLMIFC

The search term for a new screen apparently is this one:
Nokia N900 TOUCH WINDOW ASSY 2691V9

I should have put a screen protector on, as suggested here:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=31689 and
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=90645 and
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=37088

P.S.: Maybe I have to buy a new one - thus I opened a thread in the BUY/SELL forum:

Quick message...

At the very least, you will need this glass (or something like it):
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Touch...item43b39107e7
When looking for this glass, do not forget that microphone should be included!
http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/2/8...68_o.jpg?nc=83

Also, when you will be replacing the glass, there is high probability that the plastic-and-metal frame around the glass will snap. Either detach-reattach the frame really carefully, or get two new parts. One is plastic-inner (0253126) and another is metal-outer (0253144). Just search "Nokia N900 0253144" and "Nokia N900 0253126" and you will find them. Like here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOKIA-N900-A...item4d23e8a02f
I do not know why mixtronics currently gives no pictures, but I have bought these parts from this store just recently. Everything was fine.

And take care when dissembling-assembling the device! Do not force anything, or you will destroy the heads of the screws, or something else. I could post you new M1.4x2.8 screws (there are six of them within the display part of N900), but shipping across the world is too much.

There are service manuals available.

If I post a "proper" message? You get to know all the current problems which are somehow associated with the topic. Or off-topic.
Quick reply...
"A Cover Assy" consists of two complementary parts: plastic-inner and metal-outer.
Therefore, you may be looking for not only 0253126, but also 0253144. Though, I understand that snapping metal frame is nearly impossible... Alright. Depends on how sturdy-unscratched-clean-not-rusty your current metal-outer-frame is.
Best wishes.

I would like to purchase a new touchpad for N900 from eBay or AliExpress. There are many sellers on eBay, but they are accused of selling used/dead touchscreens by many customers, and on Ali there is no feedback. Does anybody have some positive/negative experience with actual sellers?

I bought it at ebay. However, I will only be able to tell your more about its functionality after I got the repair done:

I received and installed the touchscreen in question. The screen surface is of very poor quality, it got scratched immediately while simply cleaning with soft rag prior to applying screen protector, so I believe it is unusable without it. With screen protector applied, there's no sign of problem at all, however. I suggested that seller apply screen protectors on those parts in future, they offered a refund, I agreed.
