I was looking for something not particularly regional, seasonal, mono-cultural, etc. for September. And guess what: I found that UNESCO (in 1966) named the 8th of September International Literacy Day. So the theme of the month is "literacy," and we're talking all things reading and readable. Some possibilities are books, libraries and bookstores, people reading . . .

Rules (just copy-pasted):
  • Photos must be taken during this month and posted before voting starts.
  • Photos must be taken by the posting member.
  • Photos must be taken with your phone's camera.
  • Post processing is allowed but you have to say what you did.
  • Users must name the phone and software they used.
  • Users post only one photo per entry.
  • Users can change the entry only once.
  • 3 day voting period starts on September 27th at 20:00 UTC and ends on the evening of September 30th.
  • Winner of the vote should choose the next month competition theme.
  • You are allowed to continue off topic on this thread after competition.
ed: because you can't just copy/paste a date and expect it to update.

Sorry to be so much a first degree guy (sun for "hot", book for "literacy")..., but it's too bad to leave this topic drying.
So I looked into the house, around me (only one day left, no?) and saw this so old dictionary, still used though, at least to teach children you can still do some things without batteries and connections.
Our dictionary. +30 years old.
Raw Fcam on N900 + kind of on a tripod, low light, high Iso, long pause.
Darktble to adjust blacks, exposure, white balance, hot pixels removal.

This is the discovery of the day: Darktable hot pixels removal: when you have to use high ISO, you get a lot of bright red and green pixels in dark areas. This filter (hot pixels removal) removes them (!) very easily. Big difference.

All the best,

The BOOOOOK!

:-)

Apart from the fact, that is is huge, it is estimatelly 100 years old. To get the size of this thing on the left page an openend N900 is used as a reference.

However I do not want to refer to it as good literacy: it is filled with text that glorifies nations, war and heros and is awfully boring to read, as it describes the stories of battles in middle Europe around 1870.

Wow, September flew by, and I'm super late, but better to add something literate than not . . .

I guess we better vote or something and find a more widely inspiring topic for next month.
