After dumping thousands of files to N900, media tracker was making my device unusable for a few minutes after startup.

But lo and behold, we have complete control of behavior! God Bless Gnome, God Bless Nokia

vi /home/user/.config/tracker/tracker.cfg

I just started playing with it, so i don't want to advise on any specific changes.

Just check it out, make a backup and pay attention to where you put your media.

You have the power!

Hi.
My desktop takes a little time to build on boot. So I played with this file and it didn't change anything for me. I disabled the tracker indexing and it didn't change anything as far as mine is concerned. But the delay is not bad.

Hello guys. My N900 just arrived today. I have 12gb of music in aac format with album art, all music files sorted nicely. If i add all of them on the phone it takes a hell lot of time to update the media lybrary. That is not a problem, but the thing is sometimes the device doesn't start the update process, but i believe it starts somehow without showing the yellow bar.

However, the update process failes to create album arts for some files even if the files as same as the other files it has just created album arts for. Is there a way to manualy start the update process ? Or should i start looking for a new music player all together ?

i mean if there is a way to just "see" the default image folder and then browse the rest of folders 1 by 1 .

Hi,

could you give me more information about the tracker ?

I have edit the file and add to the line NoWatchDirectory, $HOMEe/MyDocs/Win; to exclude all my windows stuff from the tracker.

After that i have delete the file cache.db in /var/tmp/tracker-user and reboot the phone.

Image from Win directory are show the image viewer application and the tracker-stats don't have change.

Any clue ?

on3st4b, i have found a solution. You MUST use xterm and vi.

1 - install (if possible) the ssh server, it be will be easier to edit the file
2 - open xterm on the n900 (or with ssh)
3 - type "cd /home/user/.config/tracker/"
4 - "cp tracker.cfg tracker.cfg.ORIG" (for make a backup file)
5 - "vi tracker.cfg" to edit the file. If you don"t know how to use vi, please read a quick tutorial on google
6 - go to the line NoWatchDirectory and add at the end of the line $HOME/MyDocs/Directory_I_dont_want_index
7 - save the file and exit
8 - "cd /home/user/.cache/tracker"
9 - "rm -f *.db"
10 - reboot the phone.

It will take some time to rebuild the index. I don't know how to purge the index without clear it

Post an other message for more help.

(if it's ok, send me my first thanks )

I don't know what directory you want to exclude.

Make a try, do it !

If something go wrong :

"cd /home/user/.config/tracker/"
"cp tracker.cfg.ORIG tracker.cfg"
"cd /home/user/.cache/tracker"
"rm -f *.db"
reboot the phone, wait for tracker made the index and you go back in previous state, so you will don't break your phone. I have done the things 5 times since my first post and everything is fine. Imageviewer and Mediaplayer don"t index all my "Windows Only Stuff, Temporary file" now.

Beware with the rm, do it in the good directory and only delete *.db, not all the file.

If you want exclue MyDocs/Images add $HOME/MyDocs/Images

Images and .Images are not the same directory !
case is sensitive.
I dont't know whats happen if the same directory is in WatchList and NotWatchList.

Last thing : Always keep the file tracker.ORIG so you can always restore the original configuration.
